Thanks, SB. I got the HZ80 or whatever the hell it was, maybe I should have got the walkman.

Anyway, we all know why your player went bad, the way you take care of your stuff...

How was I supposed to know that leaving an audio player in my car all summer would wreck it? After all, I piled up by Dave’s 2 and 4 discs on top of it to protect it.

Well, that seems sound enough...maybe libertycaps was wrong about you...

That's weird, I accidentally wrote "you're" and fixed it to "your"--you quoted my post and it has the right spelling, but my original post has the misspelling again.

Dave’s Picks Vol. 30 has an excellent Dark Star from January 2, 1970.

A definite highlight for me from the series this year.

I’d like to see people’s Top 5 tracks from the series so far this year.

    24 March 1973? It's an awesome show.

Just noticed their a quite a bit of redundancy in songs between 3/24/73 and Dave’s Picks Vol. 16 (3/28/73).

If they had the tapes, a March 73 box set would have been in order, according to me at least. (This will be the 3rd show from the tour to come out as a pick from Dave, so that's almost certainly not ever happening.)

On that tour, they were playing an average of around 15 songs in the first set, and some typical (for the time) first set tunes did double duty as warmups for the jam in set 2. They did 52 songs over the 11 shows (not counting stuff like space, drums, spanish jam, wrs prelude etc.,) and of those 22 were played at more than half of the dates.

Mexicali Blues, Looks Like Rain, Row Jimmy and Playin in the Band were played at every single show (with Playin appearing to close out set 1 at all of them except DaP16.) Jack Straw, El Paso, Box of Rain, Promised Land and I Know You Rider each were played 10 times out of 11 shows.

A strange era for the band, a tour where they played Dark Star more often than either Saturday Night or Around and Around!

Sing Me Back Home from the forthcoming pick is a one-off, and Cumberland Blues that appears on both 3-24 and 3-28 was only played 3 times (the 3rd being 3-30-73.) Johnny B Goode showed up 3 times on the tour: 3-24, 3-28, and 4-2, the three shows that Dave has picked so far.

What I really liked about this tour when I listened to it sequentially was that in most of the shows, set 1 has multiple jam vehicles, whether Bird Song or Here Comes Sunshine along with Playin.

It's not as strong an era for first set tunes as 1974, but this was a great little tour even in spite of some of the repeats, and I'd have no issue with any of these shows coming out (except a few only circulate as AUDs IIRC.) Each show features a unique take on a classic jam sequence with a few twists thrown in.

We're nearing the end of the month. Isn't it time for a Dave's seaside distraction video?

Isn't today the day? Or do I have my dates totally mixed up (which could well be the case).

I've been listening to the Archive versions (mp3 resolution?) and really enjoying the set list. Is it fair to assume this official release will/might sound better?

Heh-heh, funny how the part where they take your cash is early, but something tells me the part where they deliver the goods won't be quite so punctual :-/

Probably it will. There is a chance it will play at the wrong speed though.

Dave talked about about different mixes on the 7" and 10" reels. Why was there two mixes and who did them?
