would love to hear a box or a future dave's pix from 68,69, or 70.

and not sure whats exactly in the vault, but late '78 and early '79, while keith and donna were in the band (maybe their last show in Feb) would be interesting, especially if it included a 'shakedown street' which is not on any dave's pix i think? (someone here will know if that's true or not)

also, 91 thru 94 might have some really interesting stuff remaining, maybe a 'here's the best of a few nights' run' thing, (would be ok with me, tho not with everyone) as whole shows from those years might be a bit more hit and miss ?

I would like a Shakedown Street box

Like, 4 or 5 shows from 79 into the 80s featuring 10+ minute Shakedown Streets (e.g., Dicks Picks 5)

I bet this won’t happen though

The reels of Keith & Donna's final show came back to the Vault. There is a great Shakedown Street in the second set.

An interesting box set would be the Godchaux's final show along with Brent's first. And both feature Shakedown Street. :righton:

I've been wishing for a Fall '79 box for years...assuming there are good sources for the right dates.

I'd never heard the 9/7 Eyes before -- I think it might be my new favorite.

All those shows would require pitch-correction from the master cassettes. Time for DL2 to bite the bullet and hire Joe B. Jones.

This is where my technical knowledge of recording fails me -- why would they need pitch correction? Something to do with the tape speed?

It's also on the expanded Wake of the Flood, albeit in edited form. Not sure what part's missing, although I will say it never grabbed me quite like it did on this bonus disc.

Yes, the Fall '79 tour was recorded to cassette, and the speed of the cassette tapes is not accurate. I believe Healy was using a portable Sony machine at the SBD- a sub-optimal choice.

I wouldn't know. My DP 38 is broken. Every time I think about starting set 2, it automatically goes back to the WRS, Eyes->China Doll. Strange.

I really like how up Bob is in the mix in this Pick. His playing is really outstanding.
Does Garcia disappear for a minute or two towards the end of Eyes from Sept 8? Broken string? Just basking in the play of the rest of the band?

Avalon '69 box (4-4 to 4-6). Plus, the Flying Burrito Brothers opening sets have already been released commercially, so it would be possible to listen to both the FBB opening sets and the Dead on 4-4 and 4-6.

All are cassette masters and sound sub-par; no cassette sources shows are good sounding enough for a box set release. Why it boggles my mind that people keep screaming for box sets from 81 thru 85.

It's a good reason not to make a box of full shows. It's a bad reason not to make a curated box of highlights from the early Brent years.

If they had Betty boards from January 1979, that would be awesome. But they don't or so we think...

Compilation or the five best shows or something like that would have been killer.
Probably the best month since April/May 1978 with the classic Donna and Keith line up.

I don't think that constitutes a box set anymore. I'd be happy with 5 CDs. This would be a retail release and therefore a good marketing opportunity. They can make their case to the Brent-skeptical, please the converted, and find a clever way to acknowledge they're dealing with recording quality that isn't always up to the standards of the 70s.

The sbd of 12/1/79 was recorded on a reel (by a taper given permission), but only the second set. Would be a terrific Dave's Pick.
