OK......but be honest: your spontaneous reaction was based solely on the year of the show in question and no other empirical information, right?

This and the fact that the GD actually did write some great songs post-1978, many of which are solely under-represented (or not represented at all) by the host of live releases so far. I mean, I like '73-'74 as much as the next guy, but how many shows of Bobby running throught the entire gammut of cowboy songs does one need?

It took awhile for DaP 27 to grow on me, but overall I think it’s a good show. I especially dig that H>S>F. Jerry’s vocals are a bit rough, but the playing is fantastic, and there’s something about that early 80s sound that fits that jam.

I checked out a couple tunes on the archive, and from what I heard Jerry’s vocals sounded good, much better than DaP 27.

Can’t wait to hear DaP 39.

I’m impressed with the variety the last two years, also Dave has been filling up the releases lately with 3&1/2 plus hours per. Looking forward to DA39!

On another forum Charlie Miller said this is one the best GD shows he attended. He went to many shows, and has heard a few more, so this comes across as a strong recommendation.

Daedalus I haven't heard it all.....

This choice was unexpected by me. But many raves on archive.

Guess I'll be the first to chime in with "I was there" about Philly 4-26-83. I've probably given more copies of this show (and Norfolk 4-3-82) to people than any others, just so they can see what I'm raving about. This show was big fun from the very start. Phil just goes off during Shakedown, and this show doesn't let up.

This will be a great one. In the meantime, there is an audience recording of this show that is in the absolute top tier of high fidelity audience tapes, very much worth seeking out. Blew out a pair of speakers with that tape one night long ago.

I'm excited about this release and now I guess I'll have to search out this audience recording. I'm really loving audience recordings lately.

DaP 27 ended up in my car for a while and became a regular in the rotation. So it took time but it grew on me.
I still have not committed an opinion to DaP 36 even though I attended the 2nd night. It just hasn’t thrilled me but I’ll try again. Honestly, I had kind of forgotten about 36 because I thought this upcoming release was the first Esau on a Dave’s. :)

I'm more excited than I thought I would be for an early-80s show, and I'm looking forward to the April 1983 box next year.

I mean, it beats anything that Brent sings, but still....

Part of it is that the song seemed to be following me around for a while in that every time I saw a Dead spinoff band for a few years in the aughts, they played it.

Thanks, I definitely will. Honestly I'm fine getting 1 or 2 80's shows per year. Will never reach the 72-74 levels for me but I have so much from that era it's not a big deal. Probably end up making a 'best of' playlist between this and the Philly '84 pick.

Now I'm definitely enamored of the idea of a 60s or 90s Pick for 40, to mix in some variety. Complete as possible depiction of the journey. Not to mention, my only shows attended were 90s shows, and that psychedelic fire of the 60s shows on tape were kinda what brought me into the fold in the first place.

Is this going to be a 2 disc set? That would be an anomaly.

Wow, I've got some mental block about Esau on DaP's. :p
I like the song but don't recall it being on official releases. It also might be that I have not been recently listening to my DaP's or DiP's.

Yeah, lots of material from April 83 that would work for me.
