Man, I'll let you know if I run across a good bankruptcy attorney! I like those 50th releases too. Hoping they'll find it in their hearts to stack a full '73 show on the Wake of the Flood 50th in a year or so!
For 1977, I'd take 12-29 and 5-19 as my two favorites, with the three consecutive nights of May 7, 8, and 9 rounding out the top five. Catch me on another day, and I might take something from October to replace May 9, but I'd hate to lose the "Comes a Time" from that show.
They really should. The average fan who badly wants to hear the music will find a way online (not to mention a lot of DaP's are on youtube) so they're racking up lost income each and every year that goes by.
Right. Dave's 25 (11/6/77) had a 40-minute disc 2 ~ but I'd have preferred filler to that Scarlet > Fire.
I never got much out of Englishtown myself except the "NFA". The "Eyes" is also nice but as you can see by my list above, it's not even in my Top 10 for 1977. I'm sure it was amazing to attend, but I've never found much relistenability.
Ah, right. I was referring to the 19th. I stuck DP29 for some reason yesterday and wound up listening to the whole box.
I don't really know. I dug it in the 80s....now with all the variety available, and so much more from the year, it doesn't really stand out too much for me...it kind of went dry on me a little. It doesn't help that the Dick Pick sounds awful. I also dig the NFA, and probably there's other stuff I could dig at any given time, but a lot of good versions of songs of which there are better versions.
Is the 5/25 Mosque ( Dave's 1) not on anyone else's list of top 77' shows? Absolutely love that show, favorite Peggy'o of all time. Stand out opener and Jack Straw, wondrous Scarlet/Fire Stunning Betty Board, incredible First and Second Set. Once i get the vinyl releases I don't know how I'll move past Side 1.
Not for me. There’s nothing wrong with it, though. I remarked— “there seems a certain relaxed vibe to this show—it’s a fairly pedestrian, laidback and almost (in places) jazzy affair with nothing really approaching the intensity of earlier dates from the tour.”
If I would have to pick one 77 show, it would be DeKalb --- when I started collecting tapes, around 1990 - my main source was attending NIU - so it was one of the first tapes he gave me ---- Cornell was part of the batch - I just always loved the energy of the DeKalb, more. Looking forward to this pick.
I’d go: #5 — Pauley Pavilion, 17/11/73 #13 — Winterland, 24/02/74 #23 — McArthur Court, 22/01/78 #33 — DeKalb, 20/10/77 #34 — Jai-Alai Fronton, 23/06/74 But could easily name another five.
I found my limit with those. $20 for four cards, so $40 for both sets plus $12 shipping plus my 10% sales tax and I couldn't justify is $7 per card. That was too ridiculous for me. I'm sure they're as lovely as trading cards can be but if they were $20 for both sets it would have been a no-brainer.
