Ahhh. "Passion Of Joan D'Arc" and "The Third Man" mentioned in the same post. Two amazing movies.

Only on this forum. Love it!

I usually chuckle when I hear someone say that a movie or an album "changed their lives." I assume they are just overstating to be dramatic!
I can honestly say, however, that "La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc" (especially when coupled with the Richard Einhorn's Voices of Light soundtrack) is potentially a life-altering experience! I couldn't possibly recommend it higher.

Blade Runner in expanded form on CD sounds really wonderful...really warm and well mastered...one of my top movies to!

High Society CD OST (well did you evah, etc.)..I have a really BAAD Japanese stereo version, but I love those tunes!

Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction CD OST's despite some dodgy 45rpm skipping on Bulwinkle II!

Wild At Heart CD OST (David Lynch movie)...fab music.

    Happy Listening!;)

    Can't forget:

Local Hero (music by Mark Knopfler) One of my favorite movies. The closing number, Going Home, is a majestic piece of music.

I couldn't agree more with you Jimbo. We're perhaps in a minority however with the music perhaps being something of an acquired taste.

Beautiful mastering by Bob Ludwig, no? IMO another stand-out on the soundtrack is The Way It Alway Starts with Gerry Rafferty's affective vocal contribution. (I've got to score DCC's "City to City" somehow!)

A fan of Dire Staits, I recall picking this title up at the recommendation of what was then known as Stereo Review. I hadn't yet even seen the movie (one of my favorites too Jimbo!). Not quite what one might expect to say the least. I suppose the soundtrack might be considered something of a tribute to Mark's roots.

Speaking of Stereo Review, that magazine was responsible for my picking up a considerable number of titles by artists generally unknown to radio play. Marshall Crenshaw and several lou Reed titles come to mind.

IMO another example of Mark's outstanding work is the soundtrack to the film Cal. Mastered by John Dent, this too just sparkles.

I've rarely seen either of these titles since I picked them up at Harvey Sound in Paramus, New Jersey in the late '80s. (At the time the store was blowing out their MFSL vinyl at unheard of prices. It was heaven for me!) Both CDs are on the Vertigo/Phonogram label and manufactured in what was West Germany by Polygram.

With the exception of the Princess Bride soundtrack (don't bother!) I've not heard his other soundtracks such as his work for Wag The Dog.

Anyone have opinions in this regard?

I well remember the very same article in Stereo Review! I had already seen the movie and fallen for the music. Still have a promo copy of the LP, as well as the import CD.

Good to know there are other fans of the movie and the soundtrack! Boy, did I want to find that Scottish village and move there--or at least vacation there.;)

As a kind of side to this, I was channel surfing the other night and came across a video of Anton Karas playing the Third Man theme, really interesting to watch someone play the zither. I've had the doggone song stuck in my head since though.

Actually, I was thinking more about the visual with these two.
a radio show used the koyaanisqatsi a lot so I know what you mean about listening all the way through THAT.

Do you know if It's true that if Amsterdam shows up on my passpert that I
will have to undergo a full cavity search upon returning to the states?
