And the film that by the way came out in 1989, rips off Aliens (not Terminator) so blatantly that is actually entertaining (yeah, one of those "so bad it's good").

I love the minimalist B&W posters that were associated with many of Woody Allen’s finest films. This is the most famous, for sure:

However, many others have that simple b&w look:

A couple have better-known posters that I don’t care for as much, but still had the minimalist posters issued. Two of my favorites are amongst nine I have framed in my living room (tough to photograph without catching the reflective glare):

The ones with color aren’t as arresting to me, but there are still some that I quite like:

Next up, lousy movie, but good poster:

    Another lousy movie; good poster:

    This one’s a stunner

And the colors in this are dazzling, too:

To me, the problem with the "Manhattan", "Stardust" and especially "Purple Rose" posters is that they're overwhelmed by text.

I think the best posters focus on visuals, not text - like the "Towering Inferno" poster I think I put up earlier in the thread.

I paid extra $$$ for that particular version because it minimized the movie credits and maximized the tower image...

Typography can be a strong design element — but it is often not done well.

  25. One of my faves, and a decent movie too. I like its minimalist design, the contrast between the left and right sides, and the way it balances out.
