Just for the record: 'Unknown Soldier' is only the closing track of side one.
While 'Five To One' is the true closing track, originally the very last one of this album on side two.

And in my eyes, 'Five To One' is the real gem of this album. (Together with ' Alabama Song' & 'Light My Fire' my favorite Doors tune.)

'Unknown Soldier' by contrast is a bit overrated in my opinion.

Dietrich Diederichsen, cult autor & chief reviewer of the acclaimed German music journal Spex in the 80s, once called 'Unknown Soldier' the silliest anti-war-song of all-time.
I would not go so far, but I think that the Doors have at least recorded more than 20 clearly superior tracks between 1966 and 1971 :tiphat:

    Another great closing track:

Whipping Post from the debut album of the Allman Brothers Band, released 1969:

"There's A Place In The World For A Gambler" is the perfect album closer on Dan Fogelberg's 1974 album Souvenirs.

The 'Grand Finale' movement in the 'In Held 'Twas I' medley, from the original
'Procol Harum Live: In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra' album.

This YouTube version doesn't do it justice as does the later re-releases do, and yet I think this is one song that that is begging for a 5.1 remix, especially @ the second time the choir comes in.

I think I meant to say it should've been the closer. It just sounds like a grand finale with "It's all over, the war is over..."

Well, "The End" isn't really a closer (there is still "Her Majesty" after that). But I concur with Sgt. Pepper / ADITL

    Also, I'd like to add:

The Beatles: Let It Be - Get Back

The Doors: The Doors - The End

The musique concrète bit at the end is my favorite ending to an album ever.
