    History of Eric Clapton

Another old fav of mine, this was released in 1972 when Clapton was dealing with heroin addiction. From this collection, the 7 minute version of "Layla" was released as a single and reached #10 in the U.S. (an earlier 2:43 single from 1971 of "Layla" bombed [deservedly so, IMO])

This is my favorite vinyl collection of him, because by virtue of it being released in 1972, it has nothing from 1974 and beyond.
(The later Crossroads box set contains a better compilation of those early years, as well as goes into the '80s, but that's outside the scope of this thread)

More Hot Rocks isn't strictly a greatest hits disc as it also contain tracks not previously issued on lp in the U.S. at that time.

By that standard Stevie Wonder's "Musiquarium" wouldn't qualify either as there was one new song added per LP side (for a total of four). Does it count if those songs then become hits :D? There are quite a few Greatest Hits albums that contain new songs, no?

  9. I had the textured one as well. Maybe only certain plants produced them.

I know someone mentioned it above, but I wanted to add that Neil Young's Decade is a very well put together double best of album. It really flows and while I might quibble with this or that choice, it's on balance really very fair as a representation of his better known stuff, at least up until it came out.

True, but More Hot Rocks has one entire album side + 2 other songs not previously released on U.S. albums.

Another question would be albums that include live versions instead of the actual charting studio tracks.

Wasn't it a triple album, at least on vinyl? (I agree with the choice)

In the same vein, the 1973 double LP Buffalo Springfield (which contains more than half of their then-released recorded output of 3 single LPs (it isn't 2/3 of their output-- because there's about 4 1/2 minutes at the end of "Bluebird" that had not been previously released)).

Yes, it was a triple album and another one that contained not just hits but unreleased tracks as well.

The OP mentioned the Beatles' Red and Blue albums, and they definitely qualify more as Best Of's than Greatest Hits.

So I reckon it's fair game.

The Bulgarian pressing of the legendary "Queen Greatest Hits" was a double LP (few songs were added).
It was an official legit release, so I believe it counts...
