Wait, I am confused here(sorry if my question was answered earlier in this thread and I missed it). The Title said Greatest Hits, but seeing a few 'Best of' Selections(and I do like the Echoes-Pink Floyd-although the order of the songs does not work well for me, but not sure if it works for a person just exploring their music for the first time, which does not matter now with Streaming & Playlist options anyway, and also like Weird Scenes Inside the Goldmine-The Doors), but just wanted to know if this thread is also ok to list 2-CD/Double Albums Sets that are not Greatest Hits(as I would also have added 'Best of Suede' to their 'Singles' Set that I posted and have other good selections to add in the future, if also can include 'Best of'). Just wanted to make sure if the OP only wanted Greatest Hits, or also asking for 'Best of' double albums.

Edit-I just re-read the OP Post and saw that 'Best of' can be included, as I only saw the Thread Title initially that stated Greatest Hits, so guess I got my answer. Look forward to other Posts in this thread.

FM was on a different label. Still a bummer it was left off.

I wouldn't just go by charts. There are lots of tunes:
    (a) that are and were radio staples, or
    (b) that otherwise received a lot of media attention, or
    (c) that were songs that got a lot of word-of -mouth publicity to an extent that people who weren't fans of the artist otherwise knew them,
where those songs do not show up on charts.

In seems like in recent years, people look at charts, chart history, etc. as something of a "Bible" or dictionary/definitive answer re something's popularity, and it's very bothersome that that's the case.

Charts are fine as a rough guide to popularity for things that would show up on the charts, and where you have to realize that even for what they are, they can easily be inaccurate for a few different reasons, including that chart position was sometimes bought, and including that at one point, sales figures were based on units shipped, not units sold.

If you were to just go by charts, you'd think that "Stairway to Heaven" wasn't a hit. It was never released as a single, so it doesn't show up on charts. Especially in the 60s and 70s, radio often played tunes that weren't singles. DJs at "album rock" stations, which were very popular, had a lot of freedom during that era and they didn't care if a tune was a single or not.

Whether something was a "hit" is deteremined by popularity, not by chart position. Charts are not a singular, definitive answer to the popularity question. If you approach things that way, you'll frequently be misled.

The double- or triple-album comp was a luxury item on vinyl, though.

On CD, almost every band of consequence has a two-disc comp, like the GOLD or ESSENTIAL series. It would probably be easier to list name acts that don't have such a comp.

The Temptations Anthology was the first album I got by them.

It is, as commented upthread, just sensational!

One thing I never understood, however, was the "Five Black Apples" motif:

This was something never used before or since by Motown/The Temptations.

Was it supposed to be a "We are Motown's Beatles" thing?

Not a "greatest hits" album though. Actually it's a "best of" compilation album.
