Jeff Lynne from ELO recently commented.

“I think ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ was probably the greatest ever English rock’n’roll song,” he opined. “I would imagine that it’s as good as any old American rock’n’roll song, like the real thing. The real stuff. As good as a Chuck Berry tune or something. It was as solid as anything I’d ever heard or better.”

It is older than “You Really Got Me” and “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” which are my choices that is no question and a great old school type of rock & roll song. What is your choice either your favorite or greatest rock and roll song from England.

However, "I Saw Her Standing There" was also a favorite of Little Richard and Jerry Lew Lewis.

Besides to the songs already mentioned in the opening post, I think „Hold On Tight“ by ELO is fantastic:cool:

I’ve never been a fan of ‘GREATEST’, but there must be over a hundred to choose for favorite. And way too many that I like to choose a favorite…..so I suppose I Saw Her Standing is as good a choice as any.

That's why I said you can choose your favorite as well at the bottom of my thread. I agree with you.

For many of the same reasons, I'd say "She Loves You" or "The Kids Are Alright."

  9. A Hard Day’s Night, Satisfaction or You Really Got Me.

I guess Warriors of Genghis Kahn would be more metal than rock n roll.

Many people will say there is a difference between rock music and rock and roll. I have my own opinions of that, but I hope that this thread doesn't go down that route.

    Just for today:

"Do Anything You Wanna Do" by Eddie and The Hot Rods.

It wasn't quite punk, but it fit that era so well.

That's the other one that sprang to mind for me along with Shakin' All Over.

This is the reason I went for this song. It didn't age when heavy rock came in and sounds just as right as a Who song even though I prefer the original.
