Any band who thinks their name is "edgy", but is actually just stupid, childish & immature, I tend to boycott just on principle. Even back when I was childish & immature, I could never feel right supporting a band like Bu**hole Surfers or other bands with names like that.

Also most bands that use either an album name, or performer name in some type. Isn't (wasn't) there a band called Courtney Love (2) ? This type of thing tells me automatically that they don't even have enough imagination to come up with an original name. Sad...

I stayed away from the Dandy Warhols for the longest time because I thought their name was stupid, but then when I heard them on a compilation I liked what I heard. I now have some of their music. I especially like Thirteen Tales From Urban Bohemia.

I think he used the name Clint Ruin.

There is a band up here in Canada, out of Toronto (I think) called F----- Up
that the critics adore. They adore, I ignore. As Derek Trucks once opined
(and I'm paraphrasing), `that tells me that they aren't serious about music'.

Saw them at Floydfest this summer. My dad was floored. I immediately went out and bought their latest release.

Maybe it's a Samuel Mudd reference. They seem like students of history.

Great punk band that has expanded their musical pallet over the years, the last one, Dose Your Dreams, is exceptional and their David Comes To Life album is one of the great rock concept albums. And they are very serious about their music.

Any musicians who think these are good names are musicians I don't need to hear.

Consider those warning signs far more effective than a parental advisory sticker.

One of the great psych/punk bands of all time, with at least 4 amazing albums and many legendary live shows. Your loss.

I ignore bands whose names don't make any sense to me and are awkward... like Portugal, The Man...

I have some tracks of theirs on a sampler, and they're quite good. But something has kept me from exploring them further. Can't quite put my finger on it...

  19. I generally take a pass on bands whose names include swearing or fecal references - I'm not too inclined to give such juvie stuff my time. F***ed Up and Diarrhea Planet are two that come to mind.

Heh, that sounded like a recommendation to me so I checked them out and ended up buying "Dose Your Dreams" on Bandcamp. Honestly, thanks for the tip!

There are some specific album titles that I'm so diametrically opposed to that I won't own them. I won't mention them, but, suffice to say, half of The Smith's discography will never be owned by me.

Steely Dan. I mean, how dare they name themselves after a sex toy, from a William Burroughs novel yet.;)

While I found the deliberate offensiveness of The Crucif___s funny, it also was descriptive enough to warn me away from the contents, since I don't care for hardcore punk.
