With a lack of good new stuff I'm visiting old favs, which is something I should be doing more of. It's what normal people do right? I find myself rapturously perplexed by Death Metal which is saturated with soul. That guitar solo is to die for. 1993

I had to look for a live performance and the video/audio quality is pretty low but it's still enjoyable. 1992
Posted because the cover rules....early gutted Entombed sharpened to a razor's edge with a touch of hardcore Stream Fuming Mouth’s Debut Album The Grand Descent
I haven't even gone past the second song but nonetheless I'll post it as it is at the very least worth listening to. Achatius, by Funereal Presence "To all lone wolves & leftovers out there who still worship the long forgotten maxim: -black metal shall be gruesome, ugly and cold- this truly is for you!" I don't find it ugly in the least. Welcoming and warm, old school Hard Rock/Metal generally I think. By "old school" I think of my personal view, which is not surgically defined and articulated but reminds me of Stephen King's Roland of The Gunslinger series. “I do not kill with my gun; he who kills with his gun has forgotten the face of his father. I kill with my heart.” February 15, 2019
Something of an outlier this Finnish Black. It does take 5 minutes to move from noisy to more recognizably musical, and maybe that is why it satisfies in its way. I keep returning to it so it's a keeper I think. Ilmestykset, by FÖRGJORD And just a note about Funereal Presence. It is so NWOBHM with blackened vocal. Quite enjoyable. Apr 19
If there is Death Soul then there must be Black Soul also. From Iceland it was Hugklofnun at 11:50 which had me pause and wait. I'll get to it all later. Name your price and I just might. Undir skyggðarhaldi, by Andavald June 6
The rising temperature has things foggy in Iceland. I've seen this before and it is from 2017 but the debut album is June 6, 2019. Can I recall the circumstances or events leading to seeing this before? Not a chance!
This album is great. I haven't listened to his other stuff, but if it's this good I'll be in for a wild ride because this album is quite a roller coaster.
There's only one song available right now, but it's a doozy: Dying to Rot, by Rotted "Dying to Rot" by Rotted. Old school death metal isn't normally my wheelhouse, but this has riffs that are hard to resist.
I did listen to his earlier albums and wasn't compelled to stay long. The new one is better. I'm compelled!
Fantastic cover art. Reminded me of that last Bell Witch cover and for good reason, Mariusz Lewandowski did both (along with this year's False cover)!
I want to fight that creature on a future Dark Souls game. Now I'm semi-spamming the thread. A pair I have been listening to but haven't been entirely sold on. Not enough to part with my penny's over. Not yet at least. The artist behind the prolific noise band Gnaw Their Tongues has this collection of songs which did not make the cut on an upcoming album. I certainly have space for some ambient, atmospheric Black Metal. Gold Are The Ashes Of The Restorer, by Golden Ashes Don't know which killer that is. 1946 Texarkana? May 10
The link to the tracks that didn't make the cut. A quick sampling of the Golden Ashes seems promising. An eternity of suffering, an eternity of pain, by GNAW THEIR TONGUES
Trying to avoid getting swamped I think I need some mp3 player thing for when out. A trio I'd put on it. This is plain meat and potatoes and I'd probably not bother except the choral and dollop of lead guitar after 2:20 totally elevates it to something a little special. June 7
This Progressive Death is so promising when I bounce around it it needs to be heard in full. Tour de Force Egg-Head Metal! Beneath the Cosmic Silence, by Atlas Entity June 14
Tau Cross does Motorhead for a new album coming. I'm liking it in part for something not really related. Last night listening to Funereal Presence I was wishing there was video of the actual recordings of some albums. Some tasteful editing is fine. August 9
Video, I just want to see the singer at 4:17 for "to reap and destroy.....AHHHHH" Bent at the waist would be cool.
Temple Of Void put out a split. It's kinda dull actually. I like the B-side by the other band more. Reminds me of The Cult. Delivering The Dead, by Temple of Void / Revel in Flesh
Something to explore on a rainy night. I count 22 bands I've never heard of. The 50 Best American Metal Bands From the Last Decade — Kerrang! The link has descriptions of relevance for each band. I love that, "relevant and young". "The selection process wasn’t easy, and to make sure we kept it relevant and young, we applied the following guidelines to each entry: 1. The band must be American. 2. The band must be actively playing shows, releasing albums, etc. 3. The band’s debut full-length must have come out in 2010 or later (apologies to Killswitch Engage, Pig Destroyer, Black Dahlia Murder, etc.). 4. The band must be discernibly metal or have metal roots (as opposed to hardcore or punk — hence, no Code Orange or Vein)" 50 Mortuous 49 Death Of Kings 48 Bloody Hammers 47 Ulthar 46 Cognitive 45 Un 44 Ossuarium 43 Pissgrave 42 Imperial Triumphant 41 Artificial Brain 40 Fórn 39 Holy Grove 38 Scorched 37 Chrch 36 Glacial Tomb 35 Primitive Man 34 Pyrrhon 33 Visigoth 32 Dreadnought 31 Wayfarer 30 Noisem 29 Windhand 28 All Pigs Must Die 27 King Woman 26 Necrot 25 Blood Incantation 24 Black Fast 23 Immortal Bird 22 Temple Of Void 21 Inter Arma 20 Devil Master 19 Rivers Of Nihil 18 Zeal & Ardor 17 Horrendous 16 Oozing Wound 15 Black Breath 14 SUMAC 13 Outer Heaven 12 Fit For An Autopsy 11 Midnight 10 Periphery 09 Spirit Adrift 08 Uada 07 Spectral Voice 06 Deafheaven 05 Mutoid Man 04 Khemmis 03 Pallbearer 02 Gatecreeper 01 Power Trip And Mr. Pipe-cleaner arms has some interesting picks for June. The past few nights when I don't feel like half-baked beans and substandard ale I dug into the gourmet Death-Doom meal with all the fixin's of Ataraxy. Not to become insufferably editorial (I do try not to) but by pure chance I saw a most cringiest black metal moments vid. It was mainly amateur bottom feeders and to play Ataraxy immediately after, as was the two night custom, demonstrated the massive gulf between the two extremes. A pity it's the amateur hour show which would spring to mind first for the unlearned (Sorry about the editorializing). The grandeur and poetic musicality of the best, and I do so appreciate the distinctive vocal. The acute melancholia, I think of those 18th century French poets Baudelaire and Verlaine.
