That's fantastic. They stole Kurt Russell's Deathproof car. Along those lines of something different a luscious sounding project between Japanese band MONO and singer A.A.Williams. Exit in Darkness, by MONO & A.A.Williams Dec 18

My best of the year. Death Metal had a really good year and Black Metal not so much. Blood Incantation Cattle Decapitation Gomorrah Hideous Divinity Tomb Mold Vitriol Not much to say about Tomb Mold and Blood Incantation as they top all lists. I think the Vitriol album is the best for forging form and coherence from ultra aggression. It's like admiring the design of a warplane. It's vicious and yet beautiful. Hideous Divinity does much the same by also being very aggressive and having great melodic form. Cattle Decapitation has I think the single best song of the year at the end of the album with "Death Atlas". In one word it is "mature". It is heavy music that is so well composed it has its own destiny, discarding so many tropes, and transcends the genre. Gomorrah is very interesting and unlike so much else out there. It's defiantly short with every song under four minutes. What imho is so interesting is how melodic it is without crossing that line into melodeath. The deepest vocal perfectly melodically intertwined with complex instrumentals. (I don't know why baritone singing is not more popular. I was just watching the NBC live stage production of Jesus Christ Superstar and loved the baritone voice of bad boy Caiaphas). Beelzebubs Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult Murg Noctem Obsequiae For me Black Metal was more spotty with my liking individual songs more than albums and liking portions of lengthy songs more than the whole. Noctem is a perfect example with phenomenal minutes within songs that ultimately are too long and lose all the steam. Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult sticks for the sole reason the vocalist is the best in the business I think. Absolutely feral and expressive. Picture when in the movie Alien that first reveal of the creature's retracting lips and salival torrent over teeth. It's too bad the band is actually boring and unimaginative. Beelzebubs the mystery band playing a style of symphonic black metal that recalls better Dimmu Borgir songs is not my thing but they did such a stellar job in that arena. Murg and Obsequiae were the only two good from start to finish. Obsequiae had me overcome my non-interest in folk BM and Murg is just so consistently fine throughout.
Posted not long ago but just to be final, and in case they were not seen, my two favourite Death Metal videos and two favourite Black Metal videos.
Just bought the last Behemoth liking it so far. Big deafheaven fan and they have helped me see past music I would have missed because of growled vocals. Quite enjoyed Alcest too. I’m becoming a convert!!!!!
Do yourself a favor and pick up Behemoth's The Satanist or Demigod. Nergal and company at their finest.
Maybe go classic, Cradle of Filth remastered and remixed. I have only 1997's Dusk and her Embrace and not this next album 1998's Cruelty and the Beast. Packed with more ingredients than a multivitamin.
Woooo hooo a list! And a seemingly solid one with Crypt Sermon @Deuce66 #1 https://www.heaviestofart.com/post/the-top-30-metal-albums-of-2019 Some unfamiliar titles to check at Heaviest Fart (the "O" might be silent). 30. I would have put Necronautical's Apotheosis on those lists. Their third album shows how they've grown as songwriters and arrangers, and the bigger budget shows in the improved sound mix.
Beardo and prog nerd tell us what they missed Also read that Sam Dunn is working on a Triumph documentary!
Ed the Sock is our Triumph the Insult Comic Long flowing robes and open flames. What could go wrong? I'm half through this album and liked the song enough to look for a video. This is surprisingly good sounding for live. April 18, 2019 Shem Ha Mephorash, by Mephorash

It's time for Lenny's super terrific, mega metal, end o' tha year discourse. It was another awesome year for death metal, my faves: Blood Incantation ~ Hidden History of the Human Race - what more needs to be said, dig the spacey lyrics, and at 37 mins, it's the perfect length Tomb Mold ~ Planetary Clairvoyance - 2 years, 2 great discs, great osdm with, once again, spacey lyrics, love it Gatecreeper ~ Deserted - massive riffs on this one, and very catchy Witch Vomit ~ Buried Deep in a Bottomless Grave - grimy, ugly osdm done right Cerebral Rot ~ Odious Decent Into Decay - grimy, ugly with an awesome cover Nile ~ Vile Nilotic Rites - it's Nile, you know what your getting, I dig the in depth notes on each song in the booklet, and that the title track is taken from the HBO series, 'Rome' Black metal, I like the atmospheric and psychedelic, and this year my two faves were Waste of Space Orchestra's Syntheosis and Blut Aus Nord's Hallucinogen. Love to put these on after several beers and travel: Doomy doom doom! Some great funeral doom releases this year: Esoteric ~ A Pyrrhic Existence - this one is my disc o' tha year! It's super long and it just envelopes you in its crushing grip. Orodruin ~ Ruins of Eternity - epic return after a long break from this band Slow ~ VI: Dantalion - just crushing Trad doom: Magic Circle ~ Departed Souls - prolly my second fave release of the year, love the singers voice Crypt Sermon ~ The Ruins of Fading Light - another one that I can close my eyes and just travel with the music NWTHM: Loves me some Haunt who had a good one this year with If Icarus Could Fly, as well as Trevor's other band, Hysteria. Oh, and Haunt have a new one coming in January. Also really dug Savage Master's Myth, Magic, and Steel, loves me an ass kicking female vocalist. And the cover is awesome, heck, all of their covers are awesome. Screamer's Highway of Heroes was another one that channels early 80s metal that I dug. live stuff: Saxon ~ The Eagle Has Landed 40 Live - 3 discs of live Saxony goodness Cirith Ungol ~ I'm Alive - massive release, 2 cds, and 2 dvds of proto doom goodness, and the singer still sounds amazin' Reissues: Cradle of Filth ~ Cruelty and the Beast Re-mistressed - finally they fixed the drums! Motorhead ~ Overkill and Bomber we reissued, but I only got them for the live stuff, 2 complete shows from 1979 featuring Lemmy, Eddie, and Philthy in top form, worth it just for Lemmy's between song banter. All the rest: Slipknot ~ We Are Not Your Kind - every disc of theirs has at least 3-4 bangers on it that I love, this one is no different Kadavar ~ For the Dead Travel Fast - a bit of a departure, more mellow and not as rocking as they usually are, with a vampire theme running thru the whole disc Opeth ~ In Cauda Venenum - it's Opeth, there's always 3-4 songs that knock my socks off Here's to 2020!
