The gang at BangerTV doing their best to come up with a best album of 2019. I pretty much share their overall lack of enthusiasm for 2019, maybe I'm too experienced? overall I can't think of more than a handful of releases that I can confidently go back to and honestly say that yes, that's pretty damn good and worthy of praise. 2019 had far too much been there, done that 1,000 times before and some of the trends like NWOTHM really get on my bad side, if you're going to ape the 80's scene can you at least try to imitate the top shelf bands and not the $2.99 discount bin "D" grade metal. Anyhow enough old man ranting.....
I've been getting into death metal lately, and I haven't been listening to much else. My favorite releases for 2019 so far are Tomb Mold (the band that converted me), Ossuarium, Blood Incantation, and Nightfell.
Terrific. I hope you find more killer music here and elsewhere. I don't mind your old man ranting one bit. I don't think anyone paying attention throughout the year will disagree with you. As for Banger's picks I like that they're not the top picks from any of the various published lists. I could be wrong but I get the suspicion some lists are elitist, heavy on intellectually ambitious albums. Or easy picks of broad appeal. The Banger guys and girl seems very natural and personally honest. I took a quick listen to Blayne and Sam's picks and Sam's choice of VLTIMAS does appeal to me so I'll give it the full listen. His review. (Honestly I like Blayne and Sam heaps more than the rest of the crew).
Good to hear from you Fuzz I was at it all evening though I didn't get very far in because I was repeating tracks. It's the vocals that hooked me. Vocals for a connoisseur of the genre. I listened a bit to Morbid Angel but I like the vocals here way more. The articulation is beautiful. I'll listen more to MA when I have time. As it is said just after 1:00 in this, track number one "you're in the presence of royalty". The damn thing hyped me up and I had trouble falling asleep. Now going to work with maybe three hours sleep but I'm listening again and everything is alright.
All of their picks sucked except for Sam's and prog nerd's. It seems like all the others tried to outdo each other with the kvltest, trvest, so obscure that the band members don't even know they're in a band, recorded in mom's basement on her 80's beat blaster and released independently on one cassette, picks. I see that banger are going to do a best of the decade list, so ya'll brush up on your excel and start compiling those lists!
I tried to listen to Sarah's pick of the year...good grief she's too far down the rabbit hole at this point.
After the fantastic return on Surgical Steel, I have a feeling this next album is going to be another solid slab of death metal.
Dark Funeral debut is getting vinyl and cassette via Hammerheart. I never understood the difference between it and In the Sign, but anyway, there it is.

Colouring outside the lines of Black and Death but this is a bit of fun. Picked off a 2019 best of Thrash post at Heavy Blog is Heavy. Into the Pit – 2019 Wrap-Up And Playlist Swap An Art Bergman meets Weezer type thing but the vocalist has enough Bon Scott to him that I dig it.
Just found this thread... I have some catching up to do this weekend.. Anyhow.. The 'Relapse' label released their yearly sampler a week ago.. It's Free.. It's Lossless Get it here... Relapse Sampler 2019, by Relapse Sampler
I have really enjoyed a lot of metal releases this year. My favorite by far is Inter Arma's Sulphur English. It's not strict death or black metal, but it pulls some influences from both. Certainly heavy as hell.
Usually I dig her picks, since she's into doom like me, but her picks this year I don't think I heard a one of them!
