not sure what sub-genre this is, but it's pretty intense Blood Breath - Redacted Redacted, by Blood Breath
At a svelte 35 minutes each of the album's five songs are still a little long. I like that it leans slightly toward the nasty but has good production values. That's not a common enough combo. Some of the lead guitar is pretty terrific such as the solos on the first two songs but other than that there's nothing spectacular here. It is a good solid record though. Sept 4
I had a Sex Pistols moment when after being led by a news article to PF's "Wish You Were Here" I lasted 5 minutes before bailing. Wanting to wash my ears out specifically with lively black metal I found just that. Could be a fun album. September 18
Got an email from Dark Descent about this one coming out 10/22 Decomposed Sacramentum, by Invincible Force
stumbled upon this while youtubing, love the shots of the crowd, like a time machine Combat Tour 1988 II (Full Concert HD 1080p) - Forbidden/Faith Of Fear/Death/Dark Angel/Raven
^^^^^^^^^ put me to sleep. I guess the cavern was too deep and dark. I dozed off. This is waaaaaay better. October 9
For maximum fuzz Bolt Thrower style this came out today and there's not a bad track on it. I liked this one most after one spin 05. Spear Of Destiny, by Burial Remains
There's no envelop pushing here. These guys are plunked down in the 90's and making the best of it. It's a fine melodic distillation of the past. Being basically an homage I won't get in a huff about song length. Tracklist: 1. Devour the Child 00:00 2. Some Ritual 05:40 3. Black Tendrils of Christ 12:22 4. I'm with you. I'm 51 and have listened to metal all my life, but only really started getting into black metal and it's various twists and turns about a year ago. I'm really enjoying it ! One of the benefits of being a late starter is it's all new to me, so I'm just discovering Darkthrone and Immortal for instance. So if I hear a newer band, I'm not immediately referencing what they're doing to the past. That will come eventually I guess. The sheer amount of music is daunting and at times overwhelming and I'm all over the place with what I'm purchasing, but it's great and so is this thread ! So far, the appeal of black metal for me is mood/atmosphere/intensity. I purchased this recently and had a listen last night, and it pretty much covers those bases. My first Alex Poole related project was the second Skaphe album, which I was really impressed with, and this made it two from two.
Rather standard straight metal here with rough vox and it goes down nice like a special edition brew from a big box brewery. Again, no envelop pushing or any kind of adventurism here but that's okay as the tunes are well crafted with the end result a good solid album. Yesterday
I've watched a couple of documentaries about black metal recently. I find the story behind it interesting, the imagery ect.... but could never get into the music. When I was into metal the heaviest I got was sepultura & Pantera.
Anyone listening to the new Paysage d’Hiver album “Im Wald”? I find myself enjoying it more than his others. Although it is definitely too long and repetitive, it somehow holds my interest. Although I have two other PdH CDs, I’m not a big fan of the extreme noise. Still, his style is quite unique.
Not my usual thing but I've been giving it a try. I'm being drawn in one song at a time. The overlaying noise has it like a landscape viewed through the interference of a snowstorm.
NCS led me to a split upon which was a fast-paced single song that really got me grooving. I think they have a terrific sense of rhythm. Blood Brew, by Alghol Investigation revealed an EP from April of this year. For $2 I might buy it. Forgotten Paths, by Alghol
I know it's not PC....but so far, I have to say Burzum is one of my top 5 dark metal bands. Sucks that the genius behind the music is a murderer.
