I think they are awesome but they are so alien (Mensa metal) I'm a bit stunned and end up just observing rather than being into it. As a listener it's a work in progress.
A new video from the also intellectual and progressive Rivers of Nihil. An instrumental track that had me hope for some sax and I was not disappointed. Sax is metal after all, brass. Beautiful song and video. Edit: oh I see I already posted this. oops
I’m a BTBAM fangirl who owns all their CDs. Due to manufacturing delays the CD and vinyl wasn’t released until yesterday. Was supposed to be Aug 20 when it was released to streaming services. Pretty unfortunate after all the pre-album singles, tour, media stuff, ect.
I had a craving for trance inducing esoteric death. I noticed during the vid text on and off so I paused it to transcribe. "...You asked enough about high and low matters, about real and surreal, trampling my peace. Now hark to the treads of Devastation..." "Belarussian band Eximperitus is back with their 2nd full length album. New Era Death Metal opus consisting of 6 acts, each of which is an independent work. The album is titles "Sahrartu" (sum. Devastation), and precisely devastation has become its core idea. The conceptual constituent, it is an representing a side analysis of Existence phenomenology as well as a gradual cycle of Birth - Death..." I like that term "New Era Death Metal". I'll keep it in mind to see if it applies to anything encountered. I think it may be more boundary pushing stuff than a specific style.
Can't resist the other top dog from the album. IMHO the most beautiful song of the year. Still untoppled mid-October. I love the minutiae, precise use of echo and effects, tones, etc. Emotionally the solo and subsequent vocal is the living end. I'm a damn fool for this album.
At the commercial/ conventional end of things I've been enjoying the Blood Red Throne album. There's a fair amount of generic material to sit through but there are pretty good highlights. This one rocks.
Really interesting stuff that will demand multiple listens to fully evaluate. Thanks for posting this.
Colors II has instantly become my favorite album of theirs. It's just SO GOOD!! If anyone likes that band, and haven't heard the new album yet, i highly suggest it!
Now playing. Some bands do seem to be at the forefront of extreme music making. I think of the inimitable Vitriol that way. Full of Hell seem similarly elevated above the ordinary. 12 songs over 20 minutes, half through it and I think I'll always be just an observer. An onslaught of one minute songs doesn't work for me. Old fashioned but I like to have a relationship with a song, a communion, and not a musical quicky. Still, a fun album to listen to at least once.
Since I discovered the "views" count I can't help but look on occasion. This morning "Views: 265,882" and yet all I ever see in the thread is "Users Who Are Viewing This Thread (Users: 1, Guests: 0)" Sure I see you regular guys visiting regularly but I take it a bunch are invisible browsers. Not important, just an online observation.
And yet views went from 265,882 to 265,944 in 3 morning hours = 62 ghosts. What am I getting at? Absolutely nothing! Just something I noticed.
Worm is an instant buy, sucks that the vinyls won't be available till Feb. 1914 is looking like a buy as well.
I just don't watch him. Don't have a grudge or anything, just not my what I'll put on my plate as I stroll through the Internet buffet. Maybe I'll give him another try one of these days when I'm feeling less misanthropic than usual.
Catching up on some releases from when I was out of town, and the Norse album is really giving me the fizz. I'm not a big fan of the vocals, but the rest of it is exactly the right kind of weird.
