I got this on Dec 23 for my b-day from my brother and really dig it. The sessions are all new to me and I really love the 5.1 mix. I think out of the recent 5.1 mixes that I have gotten lately it is my favorite. I also think Paradise City from the sessions smokes the official release version.

Now bring on the Illusion albums in 5.1 surround.

Definitely getting warmer. I think for $60 I would pull the trigger.

    The wait continues...…..

$499 is still too much in my view. Now, if it were signed . . . I can’t believe they made 10,000 of those things.

The super deluxe on the other hand, seems to be a decent deal. Not sure how much I want it.

I think this surpasses Gene's thing even if his actually cost more. At least with that you got lots of previously-unreleased material. This thing? Zero. Nothing at all.

I suppose, if you value Gene's unreleased demos worth $1000-$1500 :biglaugh:

Main album remaster - don't care, I have the original CD and vinyl and they sound great already. Sound City sessions/B-Sides EP's = 39 songs of varying quality and while I would like to have them in the collection it's not worth anywhere near the $ being charged for the Deluxe edition let alone that Super Deluxe box.

I think we're the ones that should get paid to listen to some of those :D. Some of them are really bad.

Yep agree. Wonder if Sir Gene will release 10 cds in vault in a regular priced box set $60--$70.00 for us mere mortals. :kilroy:

That's a reasonable argument to me. I wanted the material and all the formats: CD, Blu-Ray and vinyl.

I get the cost argument on the GNR box, but attempting to compare it to the cost/value of the Simmons box doesn't do that argument any favors imo. The Simmons box wouldn't be worth $1K or even $500 to me, no matter how much 'unreleased' material is on there (more power to those for which it is.) There's maybe a disc worth (possibly 2) of that material I'd like to hear.

At least with the GNR box, the main content is available in "cheaper" formats for those who didn't want or couldn't afford the big box - notice I put cheaper in quotes. Yes, it would have been nice if some of things (vinyl, 5.1 mix, etc) were available in standalone formats. That said, what other way currently is there to get any of the Simmons material? None.

I still am perfectly happy with buying the cheapest CD package and streaming the rest of the extras for now, if they knock the Super Deluxe to 50 or 60 bucks I might go for that though

The remaster of the album itself I thought was well done, I don't know if it is better than the original Diament but it is still very crankable and dynamic so I am happy with it

Yeah, I am keeping my eye out for a serious discount. It could happen at some point.

Hey, if you pay a thousand dollars you get a cassette replica of their 1985 demo!

For a grand Axl and Slash should deliver it and then have a fist fight in your living room.

I'm not sure why anyone would want the big box really. The rare stuff that you'll play once is on Spotify and the rest of the box looks to be full of tat, the kind of stuff you might have been impressed with when you were 16. The price even when on offer is laughable too. How is it even remotely justifiable for the contents?
