“You know where you are!?!?!?! You’re in the jungle, baby!!!!!! It’s time to dieeeeeeeeee!!!!” Oh man. Holy hell. I’ll really believe this when it’s in my hands. Even then I’ll have to let it sink in. At four discs, it probably isn’t every last demo that circulates (unless no live material is included) but I’ll take it. Oh man. Please let the demos be un-futzed with. Please.
Yep. As you say, 4 discs doesn’t give a lot of room to play with (particularly since one will surely consist of AFD remastered), considering how much potential material is out there. My guess at this point: Disc 1: AFD (maybe including outtakes as bonus tracks) Disc 2: Demos/outtakes Discs 3: Live 6/28/87 Marquee Disc 4: Live 2/2/88 Ritz (perhaps this disc is a DVD)
If there really was an Appetite-era recorded version of “You Could Be Mine,” it has to be included. Santa’s gonna be early this year.
Amazon listings are notoriously wrong this early on. For instance, one of the four discs very well could be vinyl, leaving only two discs of archive material, assuming one CD is the album proper. As for the Ritz, unless something has changed, MTV's price tag to let that go was always the reason it's never came out. I hope I'm wrong, but this could be an Appetite For Disappointment coming.
Definitely. Amazon is often inconsistent in these matters. Based on Mitch’s comment about the large amount of vinyl in the set, I’m inclined to think the 4 discs (if it’s even accurate) refers just to CDs and/or DVDs. But there’s no way to know yet. As for The Ritz, maybe being part of an expensive set makes it possible to meet MTV’s price? But even if not, I’d actually prefer a less familiar show be included instead. But for the purposes of guessing the contents, I figured it’d make more sense to lean on the obvious.
Actually, it's the opposite - that tape hiss and high end (cymbals and sibilance) create quite a lossy digital smear of wishy-washy 'mp3ness' over the top of stuff like that, which needs all the help, fidelity-wise, that it can get.
Yup. People have complained about the mastering of "Purple Rain" in last year's CD re-release, but that's way down on my list of priorities. Like "AfD", the original "PR" CD sounds fine - I bought the set for the bonus material, and that's why I'd be interested in a deluxe "AfD"!
I don't think I ever gave a second thought to the fact that there's an unplayed disc 1 of the Stones Exile Deluxe sitting in the Stones ward of the house...but man, I sure have got my money's worth out that disc 2, mmhmm.
I can't wait for The Spaghetti Incident?! Super Deluxe "Oodles Of Noodles" Edition Box Set in 2023 with six discs of outtakes of even more cover songs and 3 exclusive CDs of the band arguing with each other in the studio.
And that's totally fine with me! Lol. I included the current price for those who wanna lock in now, in case the price goes the opposite direction from which you speak.
