There are cheap movies made which are obviously awful so its unfair to choose those. When a movie with big stars and a bit of money behind it turns out to be boring, cringe inducing and "walkoutable" thats a contender. I nominate PS I Love You. Killed Hilary Swank's chances at being a big budget movie lead for all time. And rightly so

You can thank legendary Hollywood art designer William Cameron Menzies, who directed Invaders from Mars. He wanted the movie to reflect a child’s nightmare, while working with a very small budget. Hence the minimal sets that use unusual perspectives and outsized props to convey exactly that. It’s a brilliant movie.

I like Tobe Hooper’s remake as well, for different reasons (Hooper worked with a much larger budget, even adjusting for inflation).

This is hardly good but the sequel is even worse and I mean a lot worse.

The recut DVD was really terrible but the theatrical version of Green Lantern worked for me. That puts me in a small minority though.

They sank an island and killed an entire race of natives as the punchline of a joke. That’s pretty bad as far as movies go.

Two Rutger Hauer movies come to mind and I love Rutger Hauer.

The Blood Of Heroes from 1989 - Silly futuristic post-apocalyptic Sci-fi movie about a blood sport. Just a pure dumb movie that was not fun. Nothing redeeming about it. Saw it with my brother on a weekend night when I was in Grad School and his wife was out of town. At the end of the movie, we both turned to each other and said "That sucked!" at the same time. LOL My brother is also a big fan of Rutger Hauer.

Hobo With A Shotgun from 2011 - I get what type of movie it was supposed to be, but I thought it was awful. I think they were trying too hard for it to be more than one type of movie....Comedy (unintentional, I thought,) Grindhouse throwback type of movie, Vigilante movie, Gorefest type of movie, soft porn, and I can go on. Should've just stuck to one type of movie and it would've worked. Rutger didn't do a bad job for what he was handed, but I thought that he though it was an easy paycheck for him. Rutger seemed to take his role seriously, but everyone else seemed to be actual B-movie actors who were out of their league. The movie ended up being a parody of what it was trying to be, I think.

Other awful movies that came to mind, people have already mentioned. But here are a couple more:

I noticed someone mentioned Independence Day. I didn't think that one was awful and it has charm, saved by Randy Quaid's, Will Smith's and Jeff Goldblum's performances. It had pretty good special effects too for when it was released. I thought it was a fun summer popcorn movie. But, an all-time awful movie for me is the unnecessary sequel Independence Day: Resurgence from a few years ago. Roland Emmerich should've not even made this god awful sequel. Nothing redeeming about it at all. Silly story, silly script, acting was bad, and cheesy special effects, especially when the Queen alien creature was chasing/being chased by the bus. I wanted my money back after that turkey.

Another one is Luc Besson's Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets. Silly Sci-fi and I love Sci-fi. Acting/casting was awful in it. Only redeeming part for me was some of the special effects being eye candy. Even the cameos by famous actors in it couldn't save it for me.

The Wachowski's Jupiter Ascending was an awful mess too that didn't live up to expectations. Awful acting all around, especially the over-the-top Eddie Redmayne (who is usually great in everything he does,) Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis (and I love Mila in most things she does.) Hell, even Sean Bean, who I like, was mailing it in. The story was god-awful too. I think the Wachowski's were on drugs or something when they came up with his hot mess. The Visuals were the only redeeming thing, but couldn't save it. Both this movie and Valerian made John Carter look like a masterpiece (I didn't think John Carter was a bad movie, despite its flaws and all the criticism that it has gotten.)

Coincidentally, I just rewatched that the other day - hadn't seen it since I reviewed the DVD back in 2008.

Yeah, that's a terrible movie, though it has lots of attractive nekkid women, so it can't be all bad! :D

Titanic from 1997 (the historical event from 1912 will always be in our consciousness, but that 1997 film [a 3-hr. epic] was, IMO, one of the absolutely worst I've ever seen in my life)

Let 'em-- it has an audience and a following (as proven by how many awards it won, as you quote the statistic), but I still remain in the minority.

That should be the edited tagline for the Manos blu-ray "Manos ..... like Lawrence of Arabia".

Truly MST3K and the tradition of making fun of movies has taught us that even the worst pile of garbage can have some redeeming qualities, even if the filmmakers did not intent them. I'll even riff alongside the bots and Joel/Mike/Jonah if their jokes aren't as good. Always makes for a fun movie.

As for the "worst" film.... it would have to be one that everyone hated. And we know there will never be a consensus on that.

I mean my personal most hated film is Babel. And look at all the accolades that one got.

It was a Katherine Heigl film that co starred Gerard Butler, I'm no even bothering to look up the title of it.
I just remember 30 minutes was all I could take.
