On the one hand, hackers might look this place over for a few minutes, see that it's Nerd Central, and conclude you're too smart to be worth the time.

On the other hand, you're not those kind of nerds.

Is this unique? I lost everything. I was probably at the front end, trying to sign in, and followed all the prompts. It told me that I needed a new password, so I assigned one, and got stuck. The rest of the day, the site was dark, so I waited until this morning. Here's the path it took me on:
    1. Tried "Reset my password" from the sign-in window. Got no email.
    2. Tried again, with my email address as U name - same result.
    3. Got message that my email address does not exist.
    4. I went through the process of recreating a new account.
    5. New account has many noticeable limitations - Cannot alter avatar, send IMs to people, etc...
    6. I am trying this next. I f are reading this, then I can at respond to a post. (I have not tried making a new post.)

    See the pic?

    See the emoji?

    7. The emoji window is not disappearing once I picked. Clicking on it everywhere - nothing.

Hopefully this helps you figure out some issues. Quick question: I was willing to start again, and lose everything that went before. Just asking if you can back-door me into my old profile?

    Thanks!

Glad things got worked out. I ain't mad. :)

I'm sure it was a royal pain in the butt for the staff and, perhaps, bit of an ol' blight on the rep of the site. That'll pass. If I can help out in any way (like a $ donation or whatever) let me know.

Something else odd just happened: I got an alert (red flag "1") when Godshifter replied to this thread. At first, I thought he'd replied to my post, but no. He replied to the thread, an I got an alert. Weird.

Thank you very much all involved for solving the problem. I was starting to get serious withdrawal symptoms during the break! Glad it was not more serious!

That’s pretty much the exact opposite of how data theft works. No one has to sit there and manually sift through anything so the “strength in numbers” assertion holds no validity. I believe a valid concern is whether any of the information people have shared on here, in any capacity, has been exposed.

    Yep!

“Someone’s been hacked” I thought. Well done to all concerned for sorting it though.

This should be mandatory on your email accounts, if they support it. Imagine how screwed you'd be if a hacker gets int your email. And then sends password resets for all bank accounts, Amazon account, personal stuff which all go back to the same email account that they hacked. Imagine the havoc that would cause. Use 2FA on EVERYTHING that supports it.

Have you tried logging in as "Blastproof" using the new password you tried to set?

If neither that or your original password works I'm sure one of the Gorts will see your messages here and hopefully will be able to help you get back in to your original account.

    Don't give up!
