Hacked? No, not the SH Forums. BUT: Compromised Staff Account!

I probably had the same compromised password as our host? I guess I shouldn’t use “BreathOfLife69” anymore?

 

Seems like an inside job to me, I mean just 1 or 2 gorts/admin accounts get hacked

 

I was in your exact same position, points 1, 2 and 3. They said my email address did not exist, but instead of creating a new account I just waited until the end of the day, and did a reset password request on the same email address again. At that point everything worked as normal and I was able to reset the password and log into my account and everything is there and just fine.

 

It's happened, we've been hacked!!

Am I the only one that doesn’t understand what “2fa” means in the hackers message?

In other words, Wth does “no 2fa be going crazy here” even mean?

 

2fa seems to be an acronym for two-factor-authentication. Interpret the message as you will from that point.

 

2fa means two-factor authentication in the world of online security. In other words, as well as your password you also have to correctly answer a personal question that you provided upon signup to the website, e.g. your city of birth, the name of your first pet, etc.

“Be going crazy here” is street-speak by the hacker, who is expressing his glee at the prospect of having free reign to cause havoc on SHTV.

 

The big question was why were moderators not all on 2FA?

 

Did any of those moderators get in trouble? Are they still with this forum?

Probably because a) they could (it’s fun to cause chaos don’t ya know!) and b) believe it or not, there are individuals with an ax to grind against this forum and the site itself. That’d be my guess.

These days, hackers want passwords and email addresses. They sell them on the dark web for profit.

He's a forum member who was plenty ticked off that ' Rubber Soul ' edged out ' Abbey Road ' by a score of 4.61 to 4.60 in the recent Beatles poll threads.

I'm an ID theft victim which was confirmed by those charging me as a suspect pointed out that it had nothing to do with my 15 or so years posting in forums online at that time without any security measures except what my firewall settings were in OS X on a Mac, I'ld say I know more than you on this subject.

Why? Because I didn't lose anything, not even money. So where's the danger Mr. Cyber security expert? Please fill me in with real information, not speculation and conjecture.
