I actually found an audio tape of Bob's first network TV appearance. I'll track down the date later, but it was on an episode of Jack Paar's "Tonight" show.

I’d be inclined to award Jack Benny the crown for the funny pause, but Newhart is right up there with the great masters of timing and delivery.

Newhart was one of the more interesting interviews in the Don Rickles documentary, “Mr. Warmth.” Among other things, he talked wistfully about how much better Vegas was when the Mafia was running things.

A recent interview in The New York Times.

'Q: When you starred in “The Bob Newhart Show,” in the 1970s, is it true that producers asked you to cut down on your stammer?

A: Yes, for the pilot. I told them: “This stammer got me a home in Beverly Hills.”'

Let's all remember that Bob Newhart is only one of two comedians to ever win the Grammy award for Album of the Year!
