It was an interesting conceit, perhaps it could’ve been better executed. The Sgt. Pepper’s show/performance as a band is a dream that one “awakens” from with another dream (“A Day In the Life”).
The sad thing is that this feeling from that moment in time has vanished over time. Pepper has become the Pop/Rock album, perhaps above all others, that people enjoy bringing down. If there was ever an album which cries for time-period context, it’s this one.
