I'm so-so happy w/ my amps in the systems as configured. I don't think system synergy is as good as it's been with past set-ups.
Good, cuz he'd be on my shortlist of invites too, not too different than the kind of people I'd hang out with in the day, all the way down to the jersey! (I played hockey for 30 of my 60 years, had a few friends from Canada, my best friend for years is from Montreal) Plus, the Oilers were really good.... 40 years ago...
He hasn't broken anything, so far, and he keeps us entertained. Sometimes I take photo's and e-mail them to him in the morning. Life is good.
Time flies. Going 3 years now since I went to 300b. Same amp, same tubes, and still going strong. Do you sometimes get the impression your amp is getting smoother the longer you play them..?
The question here is which one? There's the Citations, The Class D & 2 Pass Labs I frequently switch back and forth from. Honestly, they all sound just fine.
I have a Toolshed Amps 300b in my main system. I love that amp…. Second system will be using my trusty Quicksilver Mid Monos. Great amps. Just ordered a pair of Omega Super Alnico Monitors to go in a bedroom system.
Yep, but I apparently have an amplifier fetish, so... which one to use indeed. In use in my main stereo system, where I have my turntable and record collection present is a Nakamichi PA-7, which I have restored. In another system, also stereo, which I use for movies, is a Parasound HCA-2000 II. In storage, awaiting their next glorious moments in the spotlight are: McIntosh MC-225 Pass Labs Aleph 3 Rega Exon 3 monoblocks ...and probably a few others. - Bill
Previously I had a Dynaco (32 years), Yaqin (10 years), a few amps here and there just for fun. Heck I even picked up those Marantz gyro receivers for 10 - 15 bucks each. I gave them to relatives for free. But I still have those 2 and retired. Maybe its time for me to sell it. Right now I have 1 in the listening-work room, a mono block set in the recording room (for test only and will be shipped to Asia next year) and I have a new one on the way to replace my 1980's sony recording amp. This sony is to its last toe. Like almost dead! I got my money on this one a thousand times since I bought it in 1982 and recorded so many albums. The sound is just an okay integrated but one hell of a recording amp. I'm gonna miss it. I don't mine owning other amps in the future, as long as its built to last.
I'm the owner of a PM8006 and VERY curious about the Ascend Sierra 2EXs. Are you still enjoying this combo?
Extremely satisified with my trio on the stage when I turn them on: -Primaluna Prologue Three pre -Primaluna Prologue Six power mono 2x
Profoundly happy with my somewhat recently implemented main system amplifier: Luminous Audio Technology - Archimedes Monoblocks. (less power but great step up in sound from my previous 2-channel amp...plus they even cumulitively weigh less, which comes in handy) Also have been happy (satisfied?) with my a/v system 5-channel amp of 25+ years: Rotel RB-985 (just keeps chugging along just fine and still sounds very nice.) (the matching Rotel RSP-980(?) Pre/Pro gave it up ~13 yrs ago, though...)
It’s never once piece of equipment that makes a system so enjoyable and a keeper it’s when all the pieces marry well together. Like you I have three systems I enjoy equally; class A/B solid state, class A mono block tubes and class D mono blocks. Each has its sound signature and what they do really really well. I bounce around listening to them all. The huge Emotiva Gen 2 mono blocks in a home theater environment that has a Backert Lab Preamplifier so when I’m in the mood for two channel on comes this pre off the processor (home theater pass through) and I flick the class A switch on. The Opera Audio Consonance Cyber 800 tube mono blocks with a pentode / triode switch for wonderful semi nearfield listening in my office using a midfield 3 way studio mixing speaker and my AGP Vivace mono blocks with my KEF Reference 3 speakers for what I consider serious audiophile listening due to how close to full range they are, great detailed deep bass. Each has their strong points and all are enjoyable to the point that if I had to I could live with anyone but only if I had to.
Happy but not 100% unfortunately. If anyone has suggestions- 24 db gain or less clear and dynamic 200 wpc at 4 ohms min 20 khz input impedance or more ultra smooth treble
Rogue Dragon, and C-J makes some smooth AB amps. You might try Pass also, but 200w is a tall order. Treble can be tricky at that point. Hence the price tags of the examples mentioned. - Bill
Happy with the operation and, especially, the sound of my amplifier? Yes. Happy that there are many more amplifiers out there that I haven't yet tried? Well....
