This year is a lost year indeed.
Pls retune the Cary with NOS Telefunken or Siemens, you will never sell it again

Depends a bit which speakers you have though - if they are a tad or more bright, consider some Valvo in the mix

Had those Tannoy's yonks ago, terrible things! I presume they must have been modded...

My favourite Tannoy's were the Kennington GR's, wish I had never sold them.

What was terrible? They have a new crossover... and I a thinking of extra weight and a super tweeter.
But generally the most satisfying speakers I ever had

You must have used them with a modern amp. That’s very wrong, then they sound like dead wood ...
They need a powerful vintage tube amp, then they are at their best

Mine had Sylvania 6SN7GTA. That was good. But I still have my stash of RCA Redbase 5692 and Pope Holland tubes. Kept the Sylvania after I sold the SLP-05.

Get it next year and enjoy the new scent. :D

I have a lot of (vintage) solid state, because I love the feel, the styling, the blue displays
But ... I mostly listen to tube amps. More Soul!

Meanwhile wondering if i should have bought a tube headphone amp ... the Virus is back!

For any of you Harbeth owners wanting a simple way to remove the grills without risk of marring the cabinet or snagging the grill fabric by prying them, a pair of these neodymium magnet hooks from Home Depot work really well. Just attach both magnets to the grill frame near a corner and tug on the hooks. Do one corner at a time until the grill is loose all the way around.

Or open a defective, dead, or old hard drive and use the magnet in there for that purpose... which is what I did.

Ironically, years ago I had some hard drive magnets, but (long before I got Harbeths) I threw the magnets away in a metal recycling bin because I figured I'd never use them for anything.

I have yet to hear bright sounds coming from a Harbeth. I heard the SL5 this weekend and they sounded lovely!

Long time user of Harbeth here.
I currently own the C7es3 40th anniversary edition and the highs are much more open than any Harbeth that I owned before.
It might be just the anniversary edition.
It does not in any way, shape, or form remotely approach brightness but while the highs were kind of subdued in the old models ime now they have become more prominent, for lack of a better term.
I do not know how to describe it exactly but the new models are not the traditional BBC-influenced Harbeth of old.

That description fits with this video as well

I wonder if the same is true for the XD series?

XD has a bit more detail in highs and mids than the P3ESR. Just a slight bit. Bass sounds slightly fuller and more tuneful. Again, it’s just a bit better. Did an A/B comparison a while back
