An artist that doesn't get enough credit.

    I wonder why.

Did his last album Paradise in Gazankulu do anything in the States? I remember as a kid that 'Skin to skin' was quite succesful over here. Checking wiki I notice that it only sold well in the Low Countries. I'm puzzled how that came to be.

His last album didn't do well in the States.

Let's hope he makes it significantly further. A real force for good in the world and someone who's stuck to his beliefs, even when it could have been detrimental to his mainstream popularity.

This thread reminds me that I need a nice copy of his Carnegie Hall live LP. I have half of it!

Either vinyl, the Classic Records Gold 2 disc set or the RCA German 2 CD set are the versions to have.

Thanks. I have the original LP but in the UK we only got a single album, with the double 'Complete Concert' not being released until the 70s. I'll look out for that as I also have the 'Returns to Carnegie Hall' album on vinyl. I wouldn't turn down an old RCA CD though. I think the Classic would be too difficult to find and far too expensive.

We got cut down versions of Belafonte LPs a lot in the late 50s. I have a couple on 10" that I know were 12" albums in the US.

Now you know to buy US LPs of his stuff.

Just watched Harry, along with Sidney Poitier and the lovely Ruby Dee, in Buck & the Preacher last night.
(Fun fact: Sid also turned 93 recently, back on February 20.)
Happy Birthday to both of these legends! :tiphat:

That´s one of them. The Carnegie Hall is not too bad, either.

For a great starter package of career highlights for people to start with or for people who want something for the car, something to rip to portable players, etc. The 3 volume All Time Greatest Hits series is the place to start.

Indeed there is a lot more to his legacy than just the hit singles and the famous albums.

I have the RCA Living Stereo Christmas album on LP and been meaning to digitally drop it. It does not get a lot of favorable reviews. but it's 1958 <<< Stereo >>> so there!
