Last century thinking. Digital EQ (for digital sources) has eliminated any nasties and offers subtle and flexible control.

It once did. All my recordings are (soon to be) files on my NAS and I can EQ them with software built into my server. There is no additional hardware introduced and, as long as the system is working within its design spec, the only effect on the sound is what you choose to apply.

1980-1982 Sansui P-1 Parametric EQ. Wish I had a 'perfect' one.

Like that would ever happen... dream on.

I've seen 2 come up for sale in the last 10 years and both were really beat up. One on Yahoo Japan on one on eBay.

I just can't be bothered to micro-manage playback by programming separage EQ changes for each recording.

Who said anything about such? The EQ is set up to optimize the sound for the speaker setup in the room and let that way. Why would you want separate EQ changes for each recording anyway?

Cute. However, while I, too, prefer music from centuries past, I also prefer to hear it reproducd better than it does with the primitive technology of the past

For sure. Absolutely brilliant one provided with the Onkyo HF Player. Wish it were more widely available.

How does the Teac EQA-20 rank? Not that I'd ever use it, just curious. I'm sure it's nothing great, especially compared to high end or pro-sound stuff mentioned here. Just in terms of basic consumer grade home audio graphic EQs, where might it stand?

In 2014 people started talking about this EQ software: http://www.danielhertz.com/index.php/master-class

In 1985, Mark Levinson introduced the legendary Cello Audio Palette (produced for 15 continuous years) which introduced no-compromise EQ to residential audio. The Cello Audio Palette showed the value of fine tuning frequency response to obtain the most natural sound. That need still exists, but in addition, many people want a way to overcome the limitations of PCM digital recordings, and obtain first rate sound with CD's and music downloads. Master Class addresses both needs with easy-to-use software for Mac, with the ability to save presets, print new files in AIFF, and perform other useful functions.

I don't know what happened to it.
