That would make things easier. I get tired of plugging and unplugging depending on what I want to listen to.

Member JohnG had this worked out a long time ago with two switch boxes from Radio Shack, I've been using that method for months.

If only it had a "pass-through" feature for the outputs of a surround sound pre-amp.

Like my Sony TAP-9000ES. If this unit only had a stereo (volume-controlled) input, or a 3rd set of 5.1 inputs, it would fit my definition of a perfect A/V product!!

It certainly took somebody long enough to come out with such a product, but I'm elated just the same. Now we wait for the price axe to fall.

Why can't you use one of the three inputs for that?

Good point. Actually this is different from my Sony TAP9000ES, because this device has no volume control or level adjustments for any of the three inputs.

If Outlaw could add another set of inputs on its ICBM, we could have analogue Bass Management AND multichannel switching.

Depending on the price, I will either get this or try to find JohnG's instructions.

bump (since so many people have been waiting for a component like this)

I dug around both the Radio Shack & PartsExpress.com site but didn't find anything resembling the Zektor. That box looks very nice, but also looks rather pricey (i.e. the remote control capability).

  14. MCM Electronics has some A/V switchers which are functionally equivalent to the RS stuff. No link handy sorry, but they are easy to find.

They are however, built better (metal box, not plastic, gold jacks). I found them when my local RS outlets ran out of there version.Of course I am sure someone will say that these things screw up the sound......

I hope JohnG won't get angry but here's what I saved when I asked him about this:

MULTICHANNEL SACD & DVD-A HOOKUP FOR ONE RECVR AND 2 PLAYERS FROM JOHNG

I have a Sony CE775 SACD player and a Panasonic RP91 hooked up to a Denon 3300 A/V Reciever via cheap Radio Shack a/v switcher boxes (Part # 15-1952). You'd need 2 of them for Multi-Channel sound.

You run the 6 cables from each unit into the 2 switchers then 6 cables out of the switchers to the Reciever.
When I listen to SACD, I press A. on both
When I listen to DVDA, I press B. on both.

Works very well. I assume you want Multi-Channel sound?

Email me if this the way your going to go and I can send you a full schematic of what cable goes where etc....

    ok, here it is:

    Box 1:

Input A: DVD-Audio front left, front right and center. (3)
Input B: SACD front left, front right and center. (3)
OUTPUT: Front left, front right and center to Recievers's 5.1 channel Inputs. (3)

    Box 2:

Input A: DVD-Audio rear left, rear right and subwoofer. (3)
Input B: SACD rear left, rear right and subwoofer. (3)
OUTPUT: Rear left and Rear right, and subwoofer to Reciever's 5.1 channel Inputs. (3)

If you follow this with the 2 switch boxes, all you'll have to do is press A or B for either DVDA or SACD.
    DVDA would be A.
    SACD will be B.

Works great. You just have to remember to press the right button upon listening. No big deal.

    Cheers!

I've been using the Radio Shack switch boxes (item #15-1952) since November 2001. You can get two of them for around $30, and they work great. These switch boxes have been discussed extensively here:

    http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htforum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=71

    Search for "15-1952".

By the way, me thinks this is really a hardware topic. ;)

If one is going into multi channel for the first time, it might be better to get a multi player.

If one has existing and very expensive SACD and DVD-A players, this would be perfect!
