Having trouble with my EIAJ machine

    When I put the player into forward, it goes into fast forward. Anyone know what it might be?

    I'm one of only a handful of us here who even knows what that is, and I have no clue. In any given piece of equipment that old I'd suspect rubber belts and idlers, and dried-up lubrication.

    Which specific model? There are some Antique Video, Beta/VHS, and other video format-specific groups on Facebook that constantly talk about this stuff. EIAJ-1 tapes are notoriously tough to play -- I had to deal with a few back in the 1980s, and they were bad then.
