The other day I was listening to Rick Wakeman's "Merlin the Magician" on headphones. What a fun tune to listen to that way! Things swirling around....as the title says, just plain fun.

So, staying with mostly 60's / 70's classic rock or rock, what are some songs that you really love or loved listening to with headphones? I'm thinking that "gimmicky" is not a deal breaker.

"The best way to travel" by the Moodies. That chirping sound goes around the back of your head.

I’m not sure “fun” is exactly the right word, but lately I’ve been enjoying the hell out of an early CD copy of John Martyn’s “Solid Air”. A wonderful, warm and perfectly balanced mix.

Back in the day, it was a not uncommon occurrence for me to stagger home pished out of my tiny little mind, find everyone had gone to bed and crank up 'A Treatise on Cosmic Fire' under the headphones. Ah, good times. :)

At the very end, the "footsteps" start from the far left speaker and end up in the far right speaker, walking across the soundstage as they go.

Front 242 - Religion, specifically the “P#$$¥-Whipped“ remix by Jim Thirlwell, a.k.a. Foetus.

Fun fact: this linked video was the second but actually SFW video on YouTube I found for this track. The first one was a well-done-but-unofficial video that edits in some fun old Dario Argento horror/splatter film footage to rather shocking effect, seek it out for yourself!

And here's the daddy of them all... Mike Oldfield's mind boggling Amarok... one track at just over an hour of astonishing playing chops and dynamic multi-layered production... keep your hand on that volume knob though...

The entire album by Napoleon XIV They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha-Haaa! I especially like the song Bats In My Belfry when the night nurse walks walks by. Also, I Live In A Split Level Head has an interesting arrangement where the lyrics are recited separately in each channel, but then suddenly go askew and really mess with the head!

Was just listening to Paul Simon’s “St. Judy’s Comet” on Spotify (320 kbps) on one of my favorite headphones and gained an appreciation for how well that album was produced and recorded, with the guitar work going on and steel guitar too in the track, I think.
