    Hi everyone

I just came upon this LP of Cosmo's Factory at a local auctions site.. I already have this one, but mine doesn't have the yellow 'ORIGINAL MASTER RECORDING' band.

What is this exactly? Could it be *gasp* something our gracious host worked on?

    Nope

It's from Mobile Fidelity, also known as MFSL or Mofi.

I have no idea what this sounds like. Mofi could and can be a mixed bag.

Someone here will have all the details I'm sure.

MFSL 1-037 was put out in the early 80's. All I can tell you about this record is that it is rather hissy and was more than likely made from a tape that was down several generations. Perhaps are host can tell us which tape was used as it will probably have Mo - Fi's initials on the tape boxes regards Todd

Whoa.. first time I've ever heard of a MoFi round here.

So, Steve or someone else.. I like the album already. I do have the original local Fantasy pressing (the word 'thuddy' immediately comes to mind).. is the MoFi even worth its weight in plastic and cardboard :)?

    Cheers

I have not heard it in many years. It sounded shrill the last time I listened; totally the opposite of what the smooth sounding master tape sounds like. I can only assume that Stan Ricker was following the orders of a suit who wanted "MORE TREBLE!" Your thuddy pressing might be more accurate.

And while you are at it grab CCR Debut, Bayou Country, Green River, Willie and the Poorboys. These are all beautiful quiet pressings mastered correctly by our host. Get'em while they are still in print or cry when they are on e-bay at premium prices down the line.
