Help me spend some money on a Turntable/Pre Amp

    Ron,the P3 had a audiotechnica cartridge so I can't give you a direct comparison to the Beta or Beta S.Though my new setup isn't broken in yet its open,smooth,more detail and bass than my old setup.I decided to go deep after reading the Stereophile article.This should hold me for a while. :)

    About using a pad. The glass platter on the Rega tends to add a bit more "liveliness" to the music. Some people like it, some hate it, feeling it's unwanted coloration. I don't like felt mats. First, they slip, and second, IME they can rob the music of too much life. I have had good experience with the Ringmat, but some people feel it's overpriced. I have never met a sorbothane or sorbo-type mat that I liked--again, it deadens the sound too much. The Extreme Phono None Felt Mat has gotten good reviews, and is cheap, but I have not heard it.
