First Failure Ever On This Site

    this was my original thread.

Sealed Neil Young On The Beach Vinyl Lp

I bought a sealed copy of Neil Young's 'On The Beach' today.

It is on the Reprise label (R2180). It has no bar code on the outer sleeve. It is a US pressing. Made in USA at the bottom of the outer back sleeve.

On the dead wax it has NY 10-33-A/NY 10-33-B.

The vinyl is about 150 gram.

Anybody know when this was issued.

i find it hard to believe/accept that nobody has an answer for this thread.

Come on guys, get your thinking caps on and work it out for me.

every single question i have asked has been answered successfully.

    here's hoping.

in the future, please simply "bump" your original thread. also, this subject heading suggests nothing to your topic for the reader. for example, i thought you were referring to a technical problem you experienced here. ;)

James, by posting a simple post with the word "bump" in it. It makes your thread more "current" by "bumping" it to the top of the category it was posted in. Also, saves re-typing and re-creating a new thread.

Post a short message on it so that it gets listed again on New Posts for everyone to see (again).

Just add another reply, with the word "bump." Your thread jumps to the top of New Posts.

And as Leppo pointed out, use a more specific thread title, like "Neil Young ON THE BEACH Vinyl Pressing Question."

I THOUGHT I WAS DEALING WITH THE MAFIA

I was afraid I was going to get 'bumped' off I got so many replies so quickly to the thread.

My original query still stands (until I suppose it gets bumped off as well)

    Many thanks guys.

    James,
Have you tried any Neil Young Internet sites? I'm sure one of them must have a history on his releases.

    NO bump

Sorry Andrew, the version I have has R2180 on the sleeve and on the label.

As I stated earlier, the original album has R2180 and underneath (31716) usually the number in brackets appears on the dead wax, but the version I have has Ny 10-33-A on side one and Ny 10-33-b on side two, something I have never seen before. The sound quality is not bad either.

    thanks for helping

Re: First Failure Ever On This Site

Hey James, it's the holiday season; some of us don't have the time to post here as much as we'd wish, yours truly among them.

However, to answer your question...since you mention the vinyl is thick but that it's a Reprise(re: non-audiophile pressing)and has no bar code, we're probably talking a late '70s/early '80s press--that is, not a 1st, since that would have been on lighter(and quieter)vinyl with STEREO printed on the bottom of the label. Could be a Columbia Record Club pressing(look for a CRC on the record of back jacket)....or a stock pressing pressed by Capitol, who were using thicker vinyl back then.

Hope this helps a little. And hope you didn't pay a lot for it, as this isn't the sort of thing you pay much for; pretty common stuff!

James, does it have the "flower interior"?

Mine does and I bought it on the day of release. (See Andrew's link). My dead wax says "R2180 S1716 RE-1-1F/ ditto 1E"

    getting warmer i hope

No Ed, the version I have doesn't have crc on it.

The label onthe record is brown with the steamboat and the reprise 'r' in an orange box at the top.

The word stereo appears at the bottom of the label.

My curiosity I have a lot of warner brothers/reprise records and I have never seen a matrix number like this on the dead wax.

Sounds like 1st then, though I haven't come across any 'heavy vinyl' version that wasn't years older.

Just the use of only the 'R'--as opposed to the MS designation--was unusual for Warner/Reprise but seems isolated to that year, since some Warner Lp's have only the 'W' instead of the BS they were using back then. Why the odd matrix numbers I've no clue, really....and I'm not sure it really matters in the long run. If it sounds fine, I'd just enjoy it for what it is. Like Mud, I bought mine when it came out....still holds up pretty well now!
