I liked the Electric Ladyland 50th box also. I admit the live disc was in questionable sound quality but the rest of it was good. I purchased the CD Box and it was priced very reasonable $38.00 I believe I paid for it.
The CD versions definitely had its sound issues. The contents were the main disappointment though, we didn’t even get the best alternate takes of some of the material and not one alternate of the title track is just unforgivable. Compared to the other boxes, it definitely suffers in comparison. The price was good however.
One of the most disappointing box sets of its kind, especially considering the wealth of studio outtake material the producers had in the Hendrix archives.
I still can't believe the poor to maybe fair sound of the concert audio was pressed to vinyl - 2 records no less - and included in any cost and or vision for the 6 LP set? Wow. At least the included outtakes have excellent fidelity and solid mixes too, imo.
Sorry to intrude, but all these arguments about ELL50 have been exchanged in the ELL50 thread years ago.
It'll be back whenever they're ready to actually announce it. Hopefully not Feb 25th or something like that.
No. Well I was told a few posts back by a member to stop putting “Beave” on my posts. “We know who you are” I think he said. And “you can save 5 taps a post” . So I’m going back to Beave. Maybe we should have a poll for the Beave! Naaaaaaaa! BeaVe
Yeah the one album reissue of the last few years I returned because i really disliked the sound of the vinyl. Re. ELL50
I do hope that they get the remastering right this time. You never really know with EH. I was quite happy with how the last editions of Cry of Love and Rainbow Bridge turned out, but Electric Ladyland was a big disappointment.
Yeah that was the only one out of all the issues from the last decade or so that disappointed be too.
Hence my quip. And I, for one, would be disappointed if you didn't sign off. Its what sets you apart from the other 3 million of us.
Very curious on this one as more detail trickle out….really as to how much of it truly hasn’t been released yet. But totally, gimme 1970 studio Hendrix - he was firing on all cylinders
Since we are all waiting for more details to trickle in, I've been curious regarding the memo text in the product shot. So with a few minutes to kill and from what I could make out, looks like Eddie was laying down the law: MEMO TO ALL ENGINEERS: September ?, 1970 AS OF LATE I AM (? NOTICING) MUCH TO MY ALARM, LATENESS FOR SESSIONS. I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY EXCUSE FOR BEING HERE MINIMUM 1/2 (? HR), IF MIKING OR IF RECORDING 1 (? HR), FOR SET UP TIME PRIOR TO YOUR SESSION. WE ALL KNOW THE (?) WE HAVE TO ADHERE TO AT THE STUDIO. I EXPECT TO SEE A (?) CHANGE WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK. P.S. OTHERWISE SOME HEADS WILL ROLL!
I looked at it carefully and I think this is what it says: "AS OF LATE I AM NOTICING MUCH TO MY ALARM, LATENESS FOR SESSIONS. I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY EXCUSE FOR BEING HERE MINIMUM 1/2 HR, IF MIKING OR IF RECORDING 1 HR, FOR SET UP TIME PRIOR TO YOUR SESSION. WE ALL KNOW THE RULES WE HAVE TO ADHERE TO AT THE STUDIO. I EXPECT TO SEE A REMARKED CHANGE WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK. P.S. OTHERWISE SOME HEADS WILL ROLL!" (looking at this image: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/81IBevxr6nL.jpg)
Re-enjoying much of the People Hell & Angels CD. Love that Earth Blues included on PHA. Like the winding and contemplative Hey Gypsy Boy. That guitar tone and solo I don't want it to end.
When PHA came out in 2013 I loved it. Still do. Despite the hodgepodge nature of its composition, it plays like a proper album. I just listened to it today for the first time in a while. So good.
