Anyone know any details about this MFSL pre-amp? http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1348445217
Don't know about the MFLS preamp, but I DO know that the Trevor Lees preamp (that was imported to the States in the early to mid - seventies) was one of the most musical sounding designs of its day. It was based on a Dynaco design and then heavily modified. Wish I still had mine.
I vaguely remember the MFSL electronics. I don't recall anything about the sound but it is legit. Maybe you should buy it so you can really enjoy the Mobile Fidelity sound as you play your ultradisc and anadisc recordings. You could truly create the Mobile Fidelity sound from the cd/lp through the electronics. With this in mind, maybe it's time for Steve to start marketing either the Steve Hoffman tube preamp/amp or DCC line of audio products. I'm sure someone whose in a more witty mood could think of some appropriate component names.
So you are talking about the BOL Electronics, by Hoffman? BOL = Breath of Life Stuffed with Steve's (and OUR's, actually) favorite tubes? Designed and amnufactured by VAC? The Hoffman line, specifically designed with BOL and approved by Steve? And hopefully affordable..... You know, all joking aside, this may not be such a bad idea. All would be tested and approved by Steve - everything else would be designed by VAC or someone! The more I think of it, the more it sounds better and better and better.............
I recall reading reviews of the MFSL electronics. It seems they were not very good...kept breaking down during testing. Turned out to be a debacle for MFSL. Buy it if your dare.
Tangent, Sorry, my wallet doesn't allow for such speculation. Actually I'll most likely be savin' up for the next 5 years to buy something decent with tubes.
