    Well, an 87% approval rating might be considered low by Ebay FB standards, but it's extremely high by most other standards. ;)

    Quite frankly, I'm not usually deterred by "poor" FB. But knowing about it in advance I can hedge my bets. As a seller, I always wait until payment arrives and (if a check) clears the bank, so the worst thing that happens if I get a deadbeat bidder is that I offer it, at a slightly lower price, to the runner-up. It's obviously more of a problem if I'm buying from a seller with a questionable rep - but even then you can assure yourself some protection by using Paypal, paying by CC if possible, or using an escrow service. I'll also "assume" some of the risk by not bidding as high, therefore getting a bargain if I do win it.

    Doesn't the bank usually take about $20, if the check doesn't clear?

    All banks are different, but they do charge.

    Quite frankly, I've never had a problem... :D

  9. When looking at feedback, I always try to balance how many positives the seller has, the reasons for the negatives, etc. What is worrying about this seller is he seems to have got a pretty bad rep within the last month.

    You know, sometimes bad exchanges are caused by the buyer and not the seller. It's all on your point of view with some things.

    I also avoid seller's with a lot of negative feedback, but lets face it all feedback is probably incarcerate to some degree. I bet a lot of people have had neutral experiences - the item packed just okay, maybe a little overrated quality wise (maybe not), shipped or paid for in a reasonable time (not ultra fast, not laboriously slow). Rather than being rated neutral, the transaction will go down in Ebay history as

    "GREAT E-BAYER AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA++++++++++++++++++++++++"

    People obviously do this to protect their feedback and I am guilty of it myself.
    How many brick-and-mortar stores (JC Penney, Shoprite, Joes Hardware, Joes Record Hut, etc.) would have 97.6% of its customers rave of their experience in a similar manner as you read on EBay commentary. You'd probably read a whole lot of neutrals, some positives and some negatives.

    I guess my point is caveat emptor all the time.
