    So what does everyone think?

My first couple would be Stevie Ray Vaughan (any album) and Eric Clapton (just about any album)

    That's V-A-U-G-H-A-N.

Sorry, but it's a pet peeve.

Hey, Steve, how 'bout "Fingerstyle Guitar for Dummies"? Did you check out the sampler I sent you? :p

I agree with Patrick. You have to spell it VAUGHAN unless your selling a bootleg then you can spell it VAUGHN but only if it's a real ****ty sounding bootleg with a horribly out of focus photo on the cover along with a very high price ! ;) Otherwise I wouldn't object to seeing DCC do an SRV title even though the reissues sound great. Hell, I absolutely love what MFSL did with The Sky Is Crying. Happy Listening -ED

    Happy now. Ooops stuff happens.

Ed I agree that MFSL did a very good job with SRV but unfortunately I have yet to hear any of his other albums sound that good, plus I haven't seen anything by DCC with a series where everything on it is very popular.

There are a lot of really great guitarists who don't get the treatment they deserve.

Bottom line for me is that even though some MFSL's are really good I think Steves signature is a lot better.

I have a little anecdote for your pleasure:

Back when I was in high school, I was watching PBS go off the air one night. As they would roll the credits (contributors, etc.), they would play "Little Martha" and "Riviera Paradise." (How cool is that?) Anyway, they credited Duane and SRV at the end, but they always misspelled it. I called them and left them a message that night. The next night, I watched it and they didn't fix it. I called again. The next night it was fixed. ;)

Dave, what's wrong with the SRV remasters that are out there now? They were done by Bernie Grundman, no? I have no gripes. I also think there's not a chance in hell DCC would ever get SRV, with the existing remasters, the box set, the OOP MasterSound title, the MoFi, and the SACDs already out there.

Thank you, Jimmie, for helping to keep your brother's legacy alive with a steady stream of releases. Anybody have the Montreux DVDs yet?

[Edited to fixed my hypocritical misspelling of "Jimmie." 30 lashes for me.]

    Patrick,
I own both the MFSL & the Mastersound and they're good but it's just a little sad to think that they could even be better in the right hands.
As far as the remastered are concerned they shouldn't have used compression on them as it's a little too much as well as a narrow stage (actually the MFSL is the only one large enough).
I haven't heard the box set yet though? Hmmmm...
Well it appears that your compaints don't go unnoticed eh? :D

I know beggars can't be choosers but I'll say this: I am eternally grateful everytime Sony ressiues prev. unreleased SRV simply because I love the man ! The Steve Hoffman Gold disc treatment would be awesome but when it comes to SRV I'm just happy to hear anything new. I think Jimmie has done a great job with his say in what can & can't be released, much more so that SOME artists estates that simply are motivated by pure greed. I like the reissues and I LOVE the MFSL Sky Is Crying (very noticeable improvment) and if his catalogue can get Audiophile treatment, COOL. If not, I'm just as happy. Between the box set and the Montreux discs I'm in rapture. This is the a fan talking here, so I won't even try to offer an unbiased opinion.

    Happy Listening - ED :)

When can we get a complete uncut SRV "Unplugged" on DVD? Please!

That would be nice Patrick, even though it would be a bit short. As I understand Stevie only did 4 songs for this show: Rude Mood, Pride & Joy, Tesify and Life Without You, and LWY was just a few seconds of a teaser for a commercial break ! I'm surprised they didn't add this track to the box set, I'd love to hear it all the way through. Hopefully someday. I also wouldn't mind seeing the Montreux shows on DVD as well. I've seen some of it and heard it exists. I guess I'll just keep on hopin'. And once and for all put ALL of the Austin City Limits performances on 1 DVD, including the ones that still remain unreleased ! OK I'm done for now.

    Happy Listening - ED

I only saw snippets of the SRV unplugged show, as it predated me having cable. :) I just remember being floored by it. He made it look so effortless. I do think one track has shown up on an unplugged sampler, but I don't have it. I do have a truckload of SRV boots on mp3 (I think around 50), so for all I know I have the tracks laying around somewhere.

Here's a link to the Montreux DVDs:

I really wish they would reissue the radio shows he did. The early one from Philadelphia is absolutely smokin'.

Ok so we all love SRV that's no secret but getting back to the original posting.

Anyone else you guys can think of that would be appreciated and deserving of Steves treatment?
    ;)

    Duane Allman.

He sat in on a lot of sessions with a lot of bands containing a lot of famous people, perhaps the most famous being D & the Dominos.

I have the vinyl (both Part 1 and Part 2) around here somewhere! :D

Ed & Pat. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Even though you gave yourself a bit of a lashing I on my worst day would never mis-spell "Jimmy". :D

Dave...buddy...the man's name is Jimmie Lee Vaughan. I swear. I'm going to climb back in my kettle now. It's nice and warm there especially since it snowed last night.

    Hey Ed,
Yeah we actually had one day of snow here which is sort of rare nothin' like what I'm sure you're used to.
I know that's the way Jimmie spells his name I was just yankin' your chain
    take er' easy :D

Dave, you mischievous chain yanker ! Yeah we got about 5" of snow last night. Quite a change for me as I've been living in Seattle for the past 7 years and this being my first winter back in NY. I'll tell you something funny: last year I read an article in The Seattle P.I. (local newspaper) and in the headline they spelled Jimi's name as "Jimmy Hendricks", and coming from Seattle, a town that prides itself on being Jimi's hometown that's a major ooops. I wonder if that writer still had a job the next day. Hope you have a mild winter back in Vancouver. I'm gonna go shovel the driveway. :D

    Best Wishes - ED

Well let's just say the ducks are happy here and you don't have to shovel it either. ;) :D
