I just ran across this odd youtube clip in which a short musical score found on someone's bottom on Hieronymus Bosch's famous Garden of Earthly delights triptych was performed as a Gregorian chant. Perhaps this is old news for others, but as a fan of Bosch, Gregorian chants and butts I found it fascinating. Apparently this was first noted and performed by a music student named Amelia Hamrick at Oklahoma Christian University in 2014. The inspiration for French artiste Le Pétomane, he and his band The Room Clearers, known to have blown his audience away.
We were in Spain for a tour and using Madrid as a hub city when an exhibition of Bosch was at the Prado. A band member and I were fortunate to get tickets and see this amazing painting (as well as many others) up close and personal. A truly amazing painting.
The musical butt was a part of the painting. The Garden of Earthly Delights is a staggeringly great piece of art. So great, that a friend's band wrote a song about it.
Deep Purple used the middle section of the triptych for their third, self-titled album. You can see it here! Deep Purple, Blind:
