You're saying you've never gone to a concert? I'd be surprised at that as you seem to be such a huge music fan and I'm pretty sure that you're at least my age (although I don't recall what I read from you that suggested your age).

14, really not that many, but never lived in the northeast which is a huge advantage. Midwestern through and through. Should have hit the Hollywood Bowl in Cal for the last Genesis concert.

Interesting question...I've been to hundreds of concerts in my life, but other than one in Queens, one in Seattle and a few in Las Vegas, they've all been here in California:

In Oakland, Concord, San Francisco, San Jose, Berkeley, Sacramento, Davis, Chico, Mountain View, San Rafael, Tracy, San Ramon, Stanford, Napa, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and San Bernardino.

    Could be missing a few...

I enjoy "road tripping" to another city/state to see one of my favorite bands. Different venues, neighborhoods, restaurants, watering holes, different people. Makes it more of a unique experience. I live in an area where I can hit about 8 different decent sized cities within 4-6 hours drive, which encircle the town I'm in. I'm used to those drives, don't mind them, and do it solo or with buddies. Got a core group that are diehard over a few bands and we've done many out of town concert treks.
You also come to know the best venues for sound/seating. You get to know the good pre concert pubs with good food.
So there are certain theaters I will see a concert at out of town because I know the venue and area will deliver a good overall experience.

A few years back I hit Steely Dan in about 6 Midwest cities within about a month or so, all at smaller old restored theaters in cool cosmopolitan areas. Each theater unique, not a generic summer shed, not a grimy pub where you had to stand, not a stadium etc. All nice 2000-3000 seat theaters, with nice comfy seats and great sight lines. Great food and brewskis nearby these old resorted theaters in older parts of town.
It gets boring restricting yourself to the same old summer shed amphitheaters in your own town.
