I went to Radio Shack and bought a pair of Y-adapters so I could hear the real mono on some Beatles vinyl. Sure enough, the sound reproduction is awesome using the adapters.

My problem is I picked up some new hum despite cleaning the connections and ensuring that the connections were secure.

    Any recommendations?

Hum from a double Y? First I've heard of such a thing. Make sure that all of your connections are firm...

What kind of hum, a low hum about 60 Hz or more of a buzz? Do you have video cables nearby? You might need a ground loop isolator if you do. You can get them at Radio Shack.

I would say the hum is about 150 Hz if I'm estimating correctly. There are no video cables nearby and my connections are firm.

 Odd...I wonder if your turntable is somehow not grounded properly now.

When I put the regular stereo interconnects back on, the hum goes away. Maybe bad cables?

Probably so. Maybe the ground in one of the cables is faulty.

Make sure you're using a shielded cable.
