I've listened to this three times. So excited! Definitely one of those bands I loved to see back in the day. It is amazing to me how many bands from this era with a somewhat similar vibe have come back with great music. Ride, Swervedriver, etc still keep making great records. If only Catherine Wheel would come back.

Edited to note that Ryan Smith mastered the vinyl (presumably from digital)

  8. This was definitely a welcome surprise today. Two tracks in and it doesn’t sound like they’ve missed a beat.

Edit: right now there are almost as many Hum threads on the first page of this forum as Beatles threads. That probably won’t happen again.

Listening now. Not as fantastic as Downward is Heavenward (one of my all time favorites) but about just as good as You'd Prefer an Astronaut.

    Ordered the CD + shirt.

Man, this really sounds like it was the follow-up to DIH we never got in 2000. The album sounds suspended in time.

It appears to be upsampled from 48kHz files. I'm not sure why they'd upsample to 88.2...? I only noticed when I went to downsample it to 48kHz for my phone.

I just preordered the vinyl. Thanks for posting about this. You’d Prefer an Astronaut is brilliant. I’m a big fan of Hum and excited about this release.

Hopefully the DR numbers will be higher for the vinyl.

Thanks for posting this thread, I thought HUM had called it quits. I love Downward Is Heavenward, but haven’t listened to it for a long time.

There isn't any accurate way to measure that. You can email the band or label and ask what source was used for the vinyl. I decided not to buy the vinyl because it looks like the last several Polyvinyl label releases are just GZ in house DMM cuts. Not worth $35 + shipping to me. I ordered the CD instead. New albums like this are almost always compressed and there isn't usually a way around it. I did enjoy the music on first listen.

I have never heard of this band. Can someone please recommend the best song on the album for me to listen to in order to get an idea what they are about?

Most known for the song "Stars" in 1995.

This album reminds me more of the Centaur album than of Hum's albums, though I've only listened to it once. I liked it, maybe a tad slow to fully sink in on first listen, and the drums sounded a bit too loud in the mix, but it certainly doesn't sound like they've been gone 20 plus years. Actually, in one or two places it reminded me of Polvo's In Prism.
