Humphrey Bogart ~ A Marathon of Bogie films will be on TCM starting early Tuesday morning (TOMORROW) 6:00 AM with The Petrified Forest ... and going all day, think there is 8 films in a row
I want to be certain everyone is aware TCM will be showing an early Bogie classic, "Black Legion" tomorrow afternoon .. Saturday 12:00 PM E. The film was not shown for a number of years, hopefully it's back in rotation. Wonderful acting from H.B. with a story that is as relevant now, as it was in 1937 when produced. If you've never seen the film, I strongly recommend it.
Humphrey Bogart/Edward G. Robinson/Bette Davis ~ "Kid Galahad" .. Movie Block U.S. RARE! Original authentic 1937 Movie Block printers plate. The National Program And Printing Company printed theater programs for theaters around the country. These 'movie blocks' were printed with oil based ink and were printed with a letterpress printing press. It measures approx 2.5" x 1.5". This movie block is metal, photo-engraved, and is mounted on a block of wood. c., 1937.
Really? I wasn't aware it had been shelved from circulation. I've seen it a number of times on TV since my youth, including on TCM over the years - and once again in the past year or so.
TCM played it about 6 months ago.. and my cable was bad that particular day. I wanted to record it.. because I had not seen it anywhere in a number of years. Anyway- the broadcast a couple weeks ago was fine.
I saw it in college as part of a summer semester course called "Propaganda in Cinema". This was in 1980, and we were told it was hard to find a 16mm copy. It struck me back then, and I was happy to see it still was riveting after 40 years of not seeing it. The other films in our class were "Alexander Nevsky", the animated "Superman vs The Japs" and Riefenstahl's "Triumph of the Will". Great class.
In the 1970s and early '80s the CBC tv station out of Toronto played pre-1950 WB movies late at night. I can remember watching 'Black Legion' back then. Since then I've seen it several times, intermittently over the years, including TCM showings. I never knew there was a period of time when it was deliberately withheld from public showings or scarcely made available.
I just saw a used copy of the DVD going for $80... so ridiculous! If it had been more reasonably priced, I would've bought it myself. Is there even a blu-ray edition available?
I watched it on a certain Russian Youtube-type site (you may have to search before you find a copy that hasn't been dubbed). I'd never seen it before and thought it was really good.
Hey Friends ~ The African Queen ~ On The Big Screen! * * * JULY 18th and 21st * * * To celebrate the 70th anniversary of The African Queen, @tcm and @fathomevents are bringing Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn back to the big screen : http://bit.ly/TheAfricanQueen70t
That's great to see it back in the theaters. How are these typically shown? Via a film print, a 4K digital file or something else? I have the Blu-ray already, so I'd hope that it's something different than that. Regardless, it'd be fun to see in that environment.
