Love the Bogy. My favorite Movie of his is the African queen. Killer acting and he showed another side as well
Just going to play TTOTSM in a bit... for the umpteenth time... Brando Eastwood Bogart Mitchum McQueen...in that order for me But my top 5 Bogarts would be... 1.Casa Blanca 2.Key Largo 3.TTOTSM 4.The Maltese Falcon 5.Desperate Hours With honorable mention to They Drive By Night
Cagney & Robinson were both major stars while HB was still doing bit parts... In no way shape or form did they ride anybodys coat tails...ever They starred in 2 of the original gangster movies... Robinson - Little Ceasar (1930) Cagney - Public Enemy (1932)
This is an erroneous statement, and certainly not what I was trying to convey... I have followed Cagney and Robinson's careers since a kid. I know that "Public Enemy" and "Little Caesar" were groundbreaking, seminal films and made before Bogart was even on the map.. Both films are personal faves. They were both major stars by the time HB made ''The Petrified Forest'' .. Cags and Edward G. never rode a coattail in their careers, or anywhere else.
The original poster made the wrong terminology, but I understood the essence he was trying to convey, hence.
Hi Doc, Kicked back and closed my eyes.. and entered radioland this morning! What an enjoyable trip.. Thank you again for the two shows, really enjoyed them both .. I liked your short intro remarks before the first one also. It had been a few years since I heard any Bold Adventures.. radio was so cool then .
Yes, it’s a really well done series that deserves a listening from any Bogart or Bacall fans. Since Bogart played this character for over 70+ half hour episodes, I suppose he spent more time as this character than any other in his whole career. Here is one of my favorite episodes with guest Wlliam Conrad (known to most as Radios's Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke and TV's Cannon, Nero Wolf, and the Fatman on Jake and the Fatman! Bold Venture Podcast 1951-04-09 ep03 Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, and William Conrad - Opium Smugglers | Free Podcasts | PodOmatic"
If you love African Queen then you really should treat yourself to listening to some of his great radio performances I've been posting as the character Bogart plays in the Bold Venture radio series reminds me in some ways to the character he played in the African Queen.
Great, I'll play it later today .. Always loved The Fugitive TV series, and William Conrad was the voice over at the start and finish of each show.
Oh, absolutely... he shows up in some film noir parts here and there also. I liked Cannon, and think he was perfect for it. It's hard not to notice the similarity in some of the Bogie & Bacall banter back and fourth in the radio series. A number of times there was the ''To Have And Have Not'' / ''The Big Sleep'' type dialogue going on.. which is fine, and plain works! With the great history, and a most beloved Hollywood couple it's a blessing to have the series.. and how nice to hear Sydney Greenstreet in the show all together this morning .
This thread made me buy a copy of Dead Reckoning as I’ve never seen it. The Harder they Fall and Deadline USA are next on the collection list. And Sahara... Like the music end of this place wasn’t expensive enough.
Here's a Bogart rom-com from 1932 with Dorothy MacKaill, "Love Affair". He's second billed, but on the title card. This film was unavailable for many years because of the well known 1939 film of the same title which is a totally different story. And this is a pristine print. youtube.com/watch?v=URbDlrGVRXw
Well I'm trying to get us caught up with my current posting of episode 6, so here is episode 4! Bold Venture 04 Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in A Bullet For Shannon aka Johnny Rice Story
