Forgive me for being naive on the subject of vintage speakers, but why are these so desirable? And for heaven's sake, is the best place for a $1500 pair of speakers your front lawn?

You either love or hate Tannoys, but there's no denying that they do a lot of things very well. Like being efficient, and playing very loud. There isn't anything else like them, and they've not been made for over 20 years AFAIK. They're also almost indestructable, from the driving end.

Get to hear some. These are the small units. There's also the 15 inchers. You won't get those for $1500.

I didn't see any tweeter on those. Is it just a woofer? I realize that some 12" drivers can be designed to have some decent high-frequency response (take a guitar cabinet for example), but real high end bass and midrange imaging from a single driver?

The Tannoy drivers are dual concentric:

For more information on vintage Tannoys and why we like them, do a search in the hardware section. Steve turned me on to Tannoys and I'm in love with them. As far as I'm concerned, these speakers are the finest on the planet and I never get tired of listening to them.

    That is a good recommendation.
Have you listened to the big new Quad speakers?
I thought they were the cat's meow when I hear them with a nice tube set up at the analog room in SJ.

    Vintage Fisher speakers

Does anyone on the forum know anything about vintage fisher speakers? I would use them primarily with vinyl on moving coil through a fisher 500b integrated amp. I'm interested in the xp1,7,12,16,66 and 7b or any other model of fisher speakers. They could be newer models as well, I'm lookiong for guidance from serious audiophiles, help!:)

    SamS,

I often see items like this photo'd outdoors. I assume the seller wants the benefit of natural light and to give a clear picture of what's what. Looks odd, but probably a seller who doesn't want any misconceptions about his item...
