I’ve long argued with people that Lopez is a terrific actress dragged down by poor roles (Out of Sight being an exception), and by all accounts her performance in Hustlers bears me out—and then some.

Will try to catch the movie this weekend.

    Maybe.

Some races are more thrilling when there's more than one person running.

Let's see what the competition is before we declare a winner.

It’s legit. This isn’t the first place I’ve heard about the Oscar buzz for Lopez. And the same for her co-star, Constance Wu (Crazy Rich Asians).

    Ticket bought for Sunday. :righton:

I saw the trailer for "Hustlers." I guess this will be another Oscar-nominated performance I haven't seen.

I’m not a Streep fan so for me it won’t take much to knock her off that throne. :D

  13. Okay, okay, I'll give her a shot and watch it sometime. I'll give her a chance before I completely have an opinion about the performance. I'll admit she was decent in Angel Eyes and a couple of other movies
I guess I'm focusing on her singing, because I think she's really lackluster there.

Lopez is going to have one awesome February next year: Headlining the Super Bowl halftime show on the 2nd, and winning an Oscar the following Sunday. ;)

Well, if you're not gonna go for your EGOT, maybe a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Super Bowl ring could do (I dunno, maybe winning a season of Dancing With The Stars, and what the hell, American Ninja Warrior...?

I have avoided any threads about it - want to go in with as little info as possible.

Chris DeVoe RIP Vickie Mapes Williams (aka Equipoise)

Vickie loved Jennifer Lopez's performance in the film, although she had ethical issues with the characters:

    448) Hustlers @ CN14. This was fun, though uncomfortable. Stripping/lap dancing, all that? Fine. Stealing? I like lots of movies where people steal and even kill (loved The Kitchen) & they didn't kill anyone. Drugging made killing a risk. Hype is real for JLo, she's fantastic!

I really was impressed with both Jennifer and Constance — both were stellar. Definitely worthy of an Oscar nom — though not sure about an actual win...

I wouldn’t go quite as far as the OP in praising J-Lo’s performance, but she does do a fantastic job. However, nothing—nothing—she does later matches the intensity of her first scene. I’ll just say “Wow!!” and leave it at that. Good movie, too.

  24. Nice analogy, a race. People have been rigging races forever. Of course, the Oscars are flat-out rigged, too...so, yeah, the perfect analogy. :D
