Interesting assumption, considering that I don't think they ever wrote any of their own songs.

There is a song where Lenoir sings his own name, it's sort of somewhere inbetween which is what happens to some names in America, but there's also the Mayall's Bluesbreakers song where J.B.'s name is sung and it's in the same inbetween fashion. In the old world I'd be a Yahn-sehn, but in North America most people do it Gee-yan-sin. My Dutch grandmother seemed to say it more like Yancy, made me think of NYC and Fantastic Four comic books.

I've heard people buying their first Fleetwood Mac album in the mid '70s wasn't sure who was Stevie, who was Lindsey or even Christine in the photo. Someone could think Lindsey was one of the girls and Stevie the new guy. I knew which one was Stevie when the Rumours cover was discussed by Valerie Bertinelli and McKenzie Phillips on a One Day At A Time (I think one or both wanted the Nicks hairstyle).

I thought she's about a mover by the sir douglas quintet was by Ray Charles

The Sir Douglas Quintet apparently fooled many people in the 60s into thinking they were British.

I did too for a while. All my friends that liked them played LZ on cheap car stereos driven well into clipping. Nasty.

For me it was Robert Plant’s vocals. They bothered me. Over time that changed.

I used to think mono sucked until I heard "Hung Upside Down" on
<<<---that album...now that's all I buy and listen to, and so many of these old familiars turn out to be revelations in mono. Better late than never, I guess!

I thought that country singer Ricky Van Shelton's last name was "Van Shelton." Actually, his first name is Ricky, his middle name is Van, and his surname is Shelton.

I thought until the YouTube era that the lead singer of We Five's "You Were On My Mind" was male. Imagine my surprise when I finally saw a live clip.

Until I heard someone say it in 1973, I thought that Bob Dylan's last name was pronounced DIE-lin.

I remember growing up in Washington state in the early 70's they would bleep out the word BUTTER everytime that ad would be on TV. The dairy lobby, I suppose.

Which brings to mind the old joke, if Olivia Newton-John married Wayne Newton, divorced him and then married Elton John, would her name be Olivia Newton-John Newton John or Olivia Newton Newton John John? :hide:

True. After all, Buddy Holly penned an ode to a girl named Raevonne, which I believe is usually just shortened to Rae.

I actually thought the same thing...

I also used to think that Van Morrison was a last name, not knowing his first name was Van, last name Morrison.

When I first heard it I thought 'Autumn Almanac' was a Beatles song. Fitting nicely in atmosphere and structure somewhere between Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever, sung by Ringo....
I still think it has the same, somewhat otherworldy vibe.

The first thing I ever owned by Elvis Costello was the Live at Hollywood High 7" EP (I'm not sure where I got it), and because of the vocal-and-piano version of "Accidents Will Happen," I thought that EC was a piano player.

For a very long time, I thought Steely Dan was the name of a country artist and I wasn't interested at all in listening to him.
