Now I feel kind of guilty. The price of the item was so low, I had to at least pop in a last minute attempt. So, I did...and won! I'm happy I'm going to get the item 'cause I always wanted one, but feel kind of cruddy 'cause of the sleazy way I did it. Has this feeling ever gotten to anyone else?

Not here. It's all part of the eBay game, and everybody knows that going in. We've devoted threads to that debate, but there really isn't a debate: as long as the eBay rules don't change, sniping is perfectly legit and acceptable. You bid the most, you win. Doesn't matter how you do it.

OK. You got me curious. What was it and how much, if you don't mind, was it? Or did my Monday eyes miss that in your post?

Don't feel guilty. You bid the most, you won. It's as simple as that. If the high bidder had a higher proxy than your snipe, he would have won.

Bottom line: You were the high bidder!! Congrats!!!

Sniping is part of the game, and completely kosher. High bid is a high bid. Period.

This is beginning, as that noted philosopher Yogi Berra once said, to feel like "deja vu all over again" from a thread on ebay sniping posted last week.

It was the Keith Richards MFSL CD, correct?
    Guess how I know?

I agree with previous comments, but I would suggest not coming here and broadcasting it.

Even if it was someone else or some other title this is the second time I got outbid and then almost immediately read a post referring to the event.

I'm new to Ebaying but have gotten beyond what you're feeling. I've even been sniped by a forum member here but that's not his problem, I purposely set a low max bid because I didn't want to go higher.

In another instance this past weekend, I bid with a strong max bid within one minute of the end and then watched someone try to snipe me within the last couple of seconds, but my max beat em'. It's a fun game :).

Let's see how long we can make this thread with guesses before we get "Gorted." With all due respect to the Gorts.

Don't feel guilty about sniping. The high bid always wins, regardless of when it's placed.

The discussion of the rights and wrongs of sniping has been fielded here many times. As with anything else, there are opinions in favor of it and against it. I am in favor of it if for know other reason than eBay allows it. As a result, I never feel guilty for sniping. As Ed said, it's part of the game.

Kbanya, not a problem if it were.
I agree that there is nothing wrong with sniping and I think it is best, if you can, to wait to the last minute or second. Otherwise we just perpetuate sometimes unrealistically high bidding.
My thoughts about posting stand, even though this turns out to be two different events, it would be prudent not to post soon after a win, because a lot of us are looking for the same stuff.

eBaying should be fun, and I wish people all the luck in the world when they try sniping or winning a bid.

Most of us have been on both sides. I've benefited from selling, and been sniped from buying. That's life.

Heck, sometimes you win and then wished you never BID!!

Well come on Mr. Banya, what did ya win? No one's going to come crashing down on your victory. You won fair and square.

However, if the guilt becomes too much my address is... :D

    This thread is like bait

Absolutely true, but not even the point, just cover for the numbers.
By your sniping, the other bidder had about a 30% chance of winning.

    good game...
