Nope, a great deal. Hey, you bid the highest, you win. Fellow members have to understand that. You win some, you lose some. You won this time!:)

I personally do not adhere at all to the philosophy that if it's within the rules, it's therefore okay, ethical, and so on. There are many things that, by law, I am allowed to do. However, I would be an absolute jerk for doing them.

Make what you will of that regarding E-bay sniping. You can think it's within the rules and choose not to do it because you think it's still unfair, or you think it's perfectly okay, or you think it's unfair and still do it anyway. Whatever. I just wanted to state my distaste for a specific line of reasoning that seems to be rather popular.

Debating the ethics of sniping is a waste of time. It's like arguing about the ethics of dying of natural causes. It is a fact of life. Or, in this case, a fact of ebay.

    Snipe long, and prosper!

Hehe. Well, I don't use e-bay all that much anyway.

I just hate how people turn "can" or "is" into "ought".

So, because something exists, it's necessarily okay.

Again, not saying anything about sniping, I just think the logic is faulty.

Okay, I'm reluctant to rehash this - and Gorts please feel free to nuke this post if you see fit; i'm uncomfortable enough raising it again anyway - but where do you get this "30% chance" figure from? That makes no sense to me...

He conducted a study that would not pass muster in the scientific community and now refers to it as fact. I'm not buying into it.

Chasing 8 makes an interesting point. My personal feeling is that sniping is neither moral or immoral. It just is. There is no ethical component to the activity.

Sniping is good, sniping is bad, sniping is natural, sniping is unnatural.

I'm closing this thread before it is Gorted into oblivion.
