OK, I have at least one computer with a DVD burner installed. What software do I need to author DVDs with music on them that I can play in our home DVD player? Are there any free ones available?

    Thanks for any suggestions!

So you want to make a DVD-Video session with LPCM audio content?

I'm interested in this too :)
Which software to use ..and what are the pro's and cons of the overall concept?

    Many thanks in advance!

If you want to make DVD-Video discs for audio:

    http://www.audio-dvd-creator.com/

    http://www.eximius.nl/

They're not free but you can try it out for free. Supports up to 24/96. I got the second one as the first had problems with gapless audio (though it looks like they've fixed it now).

    For DVD-Audio there's Minnetonka & WaveLab, more $ tho.

That really depends on what you want to do. You can either go with DVD-Video or DVD-Audio. You can go for hi-res, say about 2 hours on a disc or lower res or compressed for several hours. Then there's the multi-channel support too. Do a search here, several people have done this.
