I avoided these films during the 2000s due to the whole 'torture porn' label it was given, but I've recently been watching a lot of horrors and decided at least to give the first a go.

I actually really enjoyed it! It's a legitimately great film that is based around plot rather than torture, and there is nothing there that was too bad. I ended up watching 2 and thought that was equally as good, and then ended up watching 3-6 (with 7 still to watch). The further they go on, the sillier they get, and I would only call the first two truly good films but I don't think they deserve the bad reputation they have. Also, despite some scenes in 3 - 6 being gruesome, they still mainly focus around plot. I've never enjoyed films where it seems to be torture for no reason, and, for the most part, that wasn't what Saw was.

Anyone else enjoy any of these, or am I alone?

A couple of years ago a friend and I watched all 7 films in one day and we both enjoyed the experience a lot, probably more than we thought we were going to.

There were references between the films that you wouldn't catch by watching them one per year (as they were originally released) and the seventh movie ties up a lot of loose ends.

I thought they were all interesting and the sum of the parts added up to a 'big picture'.

Never understood (or cared about) all the bad-mouthing these films got. If nasty bits of violence bother you, then don't start watching movies called 'Saw'.

Somebody mentioned Saw in the Squid Games thread and I just finished Saw III. I think they are very gruesome and at times, I can only watch 30 minutes before I have to switch off for a while (wimp). I'll start IV tonight or tomorrow.

Surely you watched the "uncut" versions (snicker, snicker)?
